I miss Dr. Jones too. He was a good practical doctor. He took time to explain procedures and offered choices. He was compassionate when it was Time for our pups to go. I respected him so much. The Ark employees work hard every day to carry on his legacy. I am so thankful for the Ark.

Dr. Jones was not only a classmate of mine at Aiken High, but also my vet since 1979, when he opened his hospital on Whiskey Road. He was amazing. He'd come to the hospital at 10:00 at night if I called him with a sick dog. I'm sure he wished he hadn't given me his home phone number sometimes. Not only was he an amazing vet, but he was so smart, so very smart. He loved his animals, and that's how he cared for them, with love. Over the years and until he left the clinic because of health, he took care of Max, Brut, Raisin, Shaina, Ziljian, Gabby, Anika, Jesse, and Roxy. A lot of dogs, a lot of years, and a lot of love. I miss him beyond words. Thank you, Dr. Jones.

Jay was my room-mate at Wofford College in1963-1964. He was a fine piano player and a very interesting person. He really wanted to be a vet. I am happy that he realized that goal.

Dr. Jones was our vet for our chihuahuas and was great with them. But where he shone was with a sweet little guinea pig we had named Whiskers. He had been raised at same time we rescued a teacup chi. So the pig thought he was a dog too I guess? He was a cuddly little guy and Dr jones just held him as he was talking discharge or whatever. Whiskers loved him. Dr Jones couldn't believe how cuddly he was. He would literally kiss cheek then other cheek a few times before we would leave. Never saw a vet actually kiss the animals, even more so not a guinea pig. I heard thru another vet as the Ark had no vet that afternoon that Dr Jones had passed away. Seems like I just saw him hobbling on that boot for his hurt leg. Well I cried because we have lost the best vet ever! But heaven sure got another angel when Dr Jones showed. Maybe Rest In Peace. I will never forget him kidding my baby on those fat kissable cheeks. He was one of a kind

Dr. Jay took loving care of our dog, Cupid, for over 12 years before we moved to Florida. He was such a kind and compassionate man, and we appreciated his professional expertise as well as his gentleness with our fur baby. He was a gift to Aiken and all those he helped. I'm sure Cupid greeted him on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. Condolences to the family.

Dr. Jones will surely be missed. He cared for my beloved Petey and was a great help to me when Petey passed. More recently, he saved the life of my rescued Lucy. We often joked (?) about Sasquatch. He was a lovely man. My sympathies to his familiy.

our family is sad to hear of Dr Jones’ passing. He will be missed. He took care of our pets for 14 years- 4 dogs and he removed a tumor from our Guinea pig! Who is still doing well! He took his time and explained things, told us stories, and you knew he truly cared about animals! My daughter takes her chi’s there so that’s two more dogs! God Bless you and your family Dr Jones. You’re in a good place now with many friends sitting at the Rainbow Bridge that we’re waiting for you.

As a exchange student I lived 6 months with Jay and Shirley. Ashley was at her first year of College and was visiting very often. And I also had the chance to meet Petie a few times. Jay was during 1 semester my father. Taking care of a 16 years also teenager in a unknown country. I will always remembers his love for animals ( at that time 12 animals including Llama, Emu, donkey at home..) the passion for his job and the help he provide me ( including my first tie for a Aiken Sunrise Breackfast meeting at Rotary). I will always thankful to him and the rest of the family. Love and hugs to all of them.

He was "fill-in" vet for me and my dog Sophie, one time, several years ago, and he had to tell me she had bladder cancer. He was so compassionate and yet professional - and also gave her another full year of high quality life. He was a special person and will be missed

Our thoughts & prayers are with you, Ashley, Petie, & Pat & all your family. May the Lord pour out his comfort, grace, & mercy on you all. We well remember Jay teaching Sunday School at SA Presbyterian, using his Bible with the English & Greek, side by side. No notes, just fluid speaking as he often used the Greek to further clarify what was translated into English. It was powerful, inspiring, leading us to a greater desire to understand God’s Word. To God be the glory. Our love & prayers continue with you.
Love,

Jay Jones was a long time member of Aiken Sunrise Rotary and a long time friend. He had a zest for life and the animals he treated at The Ark Animal Hospital and at his home. I remember visiting his house and his llamas with his warning, "Don't get to close, they're mean critters." One time he told me he was walking around his house at night and he stepped on a snake. The startled snake immediately wrapped himself around his leg all the way up to his thigh. It was pitch black out. Now you'd think a vet would be able to handle this calmly with vet-like animal Zen-ness. Nope! He said he let out such a holler he woke up the whole neighborhood all the while vigorously shaking his snake-entangled leg. The snake held on tightly. Eventually he regained his composure and reached down in the dark to grab the snake and peel it off. Jay rode motor scooters (he had several) all around town and even on road trips. One day he lent me one and we went downtown on some forgotten errand, but I remember his joy of being on the open road on scooters with a friend. Jay was eccentric and kind. He treated any and all animals, domestic and exotic, whether they were a lovable pet or some poor creature that someone found hurting and brought in, often without compensation. Dr. Jones was an amazing man & a Godly man who took the time to help many. Dr. Jones was my first true employer while I worked in high school, and he placed great trust in young people with his business after getting to know them. While working I was able to see Dr. Jones live through example, he walked with God and lived through a living example without having to say a word to others. I will remember Dr. Jones best as a giver, due to his active roll with the Rotary Club, and taking his time to mentor many local teenagers outside of his involvement with the Rotary Club. So farewell for now my friend, I know that you are definitely looking down from our Father's Heavenly Kingdom. Save us a space and we shall have a wonderous reunion when our time is called.

Dr. Jay was a long time friend of our family. I have fond memories of visiting his house with all the animals he let stay with him and nursed back to health. I honestly wish I had followed in his foot prints. He was one of my fathers best friends and I admired him. I so wanted to be a veterinarian but didn’t have the guts to deal with difficult situations.
I know he was somewhat difficult to deal with at times, but he truly loved his profession. I will truly miss him and I admire his skills. He kept up with modern times and the best treatment for our animals. He truly cared for our dog Samson who others may have been intimidated of due to his nature but he is big baby! Jay was NEVER intimidated.
I loved Jay for the reason that he truly cared for all animals expect cats, something he had expressed to me along time ago and made no secret of it. I was extremely sad about that but understood, as people are people. He still cared for our cats.
I loved his stories and all his knowledge.
He will truly be missed. Good bye to you Dr. Jay, until we meet again.

I first met Jay as a teenager in 1992 when we moved to Aiken. My mother decided he was the “best veterinarian” in Aiken, so he was our choice. I was lucky enough to meet and eventually marry the daughter of one of Jay’s childhood friends, and had the honor of spending several holidays with him at my in-laws home. As such, I always felt as though he was as much a friend as a vet. Jay was extremely intelligent, and our conversations alway confirmed that he was 100% the guy you wanted watching over your pet’s health. I would call him the “Gregory House” (for those familiar with the show) of veterinarians...a slightly gruff and direct bedside manner combined with the absolute best diagnostic veterinary care. On several occasions Jay explained to me how vets were taught to do a certain procedure, why it was wrong, and how to do it better.
I’ll forever be indebted for the care he provided our German Shepherd, Samson. Once, when Samson was a very sick puppy and had to spend the night Jay instructed his staff to “put him in my office”. That meant the world to our family.
My prayers go out to his family and friends. He will be missed.
