James Brown Obituary

James Edward "Jake" Brown
Aiken - Mr. James Brown, 84, of Aiken, SC, affectionately known as "Jake" "Pop" and "Papa", entered into rest unexpectedly on Saturday, June 26, 2021.
James was a son of the late John and Elvie Brown of Cleveland, TN. His wife of fifty-seven years, Carolyn Key Brown, preceded him in death.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Laura Lynn Brown and sisters, Edna Gunter, Margie Shoemaker and Frances Kaylor.
He proudly and with honor served his country in the United States Army.
Mr. Brown recently retired in 2020, from Aiken Pest Control, after thirty-one years of service. He acquired many friendships with his customers, he really missed talking to them.
The family would like to say "Thank You" for entrusting him in your homes and being friends that he thought so much of.
Also, the family would like to thank Charles Heath for being a good friend to Jake.
Surviving are a son and his wife, Johnny Lynn and Velma Brown, Aiken, SC; a granddaughter Kayla Brown Conner, who he was so proud of and her husband, Benjamin, great-grandchildren, "his girl", McKenna Barbour, "his buddy", Hayes Barbour and "his girl", Emory Conner, all of Aiken, SC. They all LOVED THEIR PAPA! Siblings, Lucille Owensby, and Opal Knight, both of Cleveland, TN; sister-in-law Shirley Merideth and her husband, Larry, of Aiken, SC, whom he thought fondly of, as well as a host of nieces and nephews and let us not forget his fur baby, "Thor".
The family will greet friends on Saturday, July 3, 2021, beginning at 1 o'clock at Harvest Baptist Church, located at Highway #1 and Reynolds Pond Rd., Aiken, SC.

Jake serviced our home in Aiken for many years. He was such a nice man and always interested in hearing about our family. We are very sorry to hear of his passing but heaven surely gained a wonderful man!

Mr. Jake was our "bug man" for over 30 years. My husband knew him even longer. We always had a nice chat when he came to our house especially when my husband was home. They would talk for a good while. He told him about going to nursing homes and playing music for the patients. He was so kind and friendly. We will miss him dearly. I hope his family will find comfort in the thoughts of the people whose heart he touched.

My Uncle Jake was a gentle man. He loved everyone. I remember Uncle Jake and Aunt Hilda taking My brothers and I to Disney. They had just as much fun as us kids. I remember how he would come to the beach in Savannah ga where we loved and we would have so much fun. I could go on and on about the Man he was. But I will end by saying I loved him dearly. And he is back with My Aunt Hilda.
