Really looking forward to celebrating you this weekend Henry!

My name is Richard Hurlbert and I live on the coast of Maine.
I knew Henry during his time in Aiken, S.C. where I was coaching tennis at Aiken Prep School and met him through the Thurlow family and Greg Chandler.
Henry was a rising star on the tennis court and didn't want lessons so we played sets. This reminded me of myself learning tennis at a fancy tennis club (Beacon Hill Club, Summit N.J) The first thing I said to the pro was how about we play, I think I might be able to beat you...Henry to a tee! He will be missed by all of us who cared for this beautiful man.

So sorry to hear this news about my friend Henry. My thoughts and prayers are with Henry's family and other friends.

I met Henry years ago (35 or so) and it was through our mutual love of Tennis. We played lots together in Aiken and North Augusta. We played mostly singles and had lots of fun matches. Most of the time Henry got the best of me and occasionally I would win a set.

Henry had quite a personality. He typically would fill the room and had me in stitches many times. He was a passionate guy about all things in his life.

I remember that Henry was one of the first guys who taught me some tennis stringing techniques. He had an older, drop weight machine that was probably nice at that time. We strung up many a racket during that time. I still string my own rackets today with many of those same techniques learned from Henry.

He and I lived in an apartment in North Augusta for a while in late 1980s. I was in school and working part time. Henry was driving a white CRV that he loved and had upgraded the wheels. He drove that car everywhere. I remember that he worked at Honda Cars of Aiken for a while. He was always a great salesman and set a number of monthly records.

I hadn't talked to Henry much lately. We got busy with our lives, families and careers. I miss you my brother. Rest in peace until we meet again.

Deepest sympathy. Knew his Dad. His grandfather was our family doctor.

Henry and I met many years ago and, needless to say, it took some time to get comfortable with his overwhelming personality but as I got to know him it became more and more apparent that he was just an overly gregarious and engaging person. That part of him never changed. I can not recollect a time when he was less than engaging even when the circumstances surrounding him were less than accommodating. Over the years we’ve shared our passion for tennis, cars and global politics. He was never without a perspective. The warmth of his personality and the energy that he shared whenever he was around will be missed. He has left an unfillable void. Rest in Peace my friend.

My big brother was taken from this world long before his time. Henry had so much life left to live and he believed he was going to get better. We had so many memories to make. Henry was the "life" of every room he entered. His smile was big, sometimes cheesy and constant. Henry was the friendliest person i ever knew...so kind to all he encountered throughout his life. He loved his friends, his family, his dogs, the Dallas Cowboys, Depeche Mode and so much more! His humor could fill a room and sometimes clear a room!! LOL! Henry was so proud of his girls Madeline and Meredith. He called them his hero's! I miss him every second of every day! I will never forget the memories from our childhood to the almost daily chats while driving to work. We celebrate you Henry and the amazing life you lived! Until we meet again big brother! I love you.

At family gatherings Henry would really get you laughing. He had the ability to make you relax when things got tense or simply make you laugh out loud by saying something so random or inappropriate. He (and Mollie) were nice enough to always share their house for the holidays and family get togethers. He was hospitable, generous and kind.
Schuyler and Eleanor had found a pillow shaped like a poop with a smiley face on it that we had planned to send to him to make him laugh. He went too soon. Uncle Hee Hee, you are missed.

I am sharing the pain of this great loss with my lifelong friend, Kakki. My sincere prayers that Kakki, Kathleen, Addison, his daughters and the extended family find peace in the precious moments and memories you had and made with Henry. Henry is a part of you that no one can take, away and will forever dwell within you. Much love and peace to you all

My heart breaks for all of you and this tremendous loss. Henry had always had such a big brother special place in my heart and always will.
