AIKEN - Diana Matthews Floyd, 61, passed away Saturday, November 2, 2024.
Diana was born in Kingstree, SC and raised in Florence, SC. She is the daughter of Harry Milton Matthews and Kay Huggins Matthews of Aiken. She was a registered nurse, having received her BSN from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. As a healthcare professional, she worked in intensive care units for newborns and children and ultimately became the Director of Women's Services of Aiken Regional Medical Center.
After her full-time healthcare career, Diana put her efforts into community development while also owning a local business and later working as a pediatric nurse at Southside Pediatrics. Diana loved Aiken and its people and was instrumental in the success of multiple programs and projects that supplemented the city's culture and infrastructure. Diana was pivotal in implementing the 1-cent sales tax to fund local school projects and worked with a plethora of other organizations supporting the local community. Diana's dedication to the city of Aiken earned her the Woman of the Year award in 2014 by the Aiken Chamber of Commerce. Diana loved to spend time on the water with family, tending to her garden, fostering puppies, and tailgating Clemson football games.
In addition to her parents, Diana is survived by her loving husband, Steven "Steve"; Eugene Floyd; daughter, Alexa Grace Floyd, Charlotte, NC; sons, Tyler Matthew Floyd and his wife Karly Shawn Floyd, Jacksonville, FL; and Hayne Phillip Floyd, Charlotte, NC; granddaughter, Palmer Floyd; sister, Susan Elliott, Florence, SC; brother, Lex Matthews, Florence, SC; and dear friend, Sharon "Tee Tee"; Sullivan.
The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 AM, and a Celebration of Life will follow at 11:00 AM, Monday, November 11, 2024, at Cedar Creek Church, Banks Mill Rd., with Pastor Phillip Lee officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to FOTAS (www.fotasaiken.org), or Life Choices Pregnancy Care Center (www.pregnancyaiken.com).
