Chester Weigle Obituary

Mr. Chester Allen Weigle, 89, entered into rest December 3, 2025, at his home. Family conducted memorial services will be held at a later date.

Chester was born in Canton, OH on June 25, 1936, to the late Dorr Harold Weigle and Orpha Shankland Weigle. In March 1943, the Weigle family moved to a farm near Greenwich, OH, where Chester was raised. In 1950 his friend Don Ropp invited him to church. Chester soon received Christ as his Savior and, as a consequence, hundreds of lives would be impacted for eternity. Chester graduated from Greenwich High School in 1954 and attended the Ohio State University College of Agriculture until 1957, in July of that year he married Carol Ann Morrow. He graduated from Grace College, Winona Lake, IN in 1959 and attended Grace Theological Seminary until 1961. In 1960 he and two college friends founded Trail To Life Camp at Greenwich.

In 1961 his college friend Mike Mecurio was instrumental in Chester becoming the first principal of the newly formed Mansfield Christian School. He was also principal of MCS high school when it was added in 1971. In 1968 he received a Masters Degree from OSU. From 1975 until January 1987 he continued teaching biology, Bible and Basic Training for Outreach. In 1975 he added a taxidermy class to the curriculum and subsequently started Woodville Taxidermy.

In 1987 he moved to Aiken, S.C. and worked at Beloit Corporation until he retired in 1999. He raised funds for a ministry to Asian children by selling items on Ebay.

In addition to his parents, Chester was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Weigle; and a daughter, Michelle Renee Weigle. Surviving family left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 68 years Carol Weigle; his children, Rebecca Earhart (Chis) of Lexington, OH, Nathan Weigle (Emily) of North Augusta, SC, Sharon Caffey (Jim) of Longview, TX, Jody Weigle (Brandi) of Suwanee, GA; a brother, Warren Weigle (Pam) of Aiken, SC; a sister, Susan Enzor (Russ) of Fredricktown, OH; grandchildren, Josh Earhart (Janelle), Max Weigle (Kelsey), Brock Weigle (Karissa), Hunter Weigle, Michelle Manningham, Chelsea Peurifoy, Isabella Weigle, and Fallon Weigle; great-grandchildren, Chris Earhart, Cole Earhart, Adler Peurifoy, Ardyn Peurifoy, Rosalyn Weigle.

On behalf of GROW (Hope) formerly Sending Hope, we send our condolences. I know he had an instrumental impact on Pastor Dave's life and the Trails to Life camps in Wiang Pa Pao, Thailand. We are grateful for the impact he had on the lives of so many rescued girls in Thailand. His heart for this ministry will be carried on.

Besides my father, Chet had the most influence on my teenage years - as a biology teacher (I majored in biology in college), soccer coach, Trail to Life "foe" and trips to the Canadian wilderness. God surely greeted him with "well done my good and faithful servant!"

To my teacher, coach, and friend. Thanks Chet for being a great example of God's love in all that you did and showed in being a man of God. You will be missed but your efforts here will be remembered for years to come in the stories we share with our families. Great is your reward from your Heavenly Father who loves you more than we can. Enter into the joy of being with Christ!

Coach Weigle was one of the most influential men in my life as a boy growing up through high school. I had a good fortune to attend Mansfield Christian School and play soccer for him for four years. He taught me how to play tough, fair, and with purpose. He embodied what a Christian man should be, and I will always be grateful for him. I pray for peace for his family, and that his memory may be eternal.

I have so many wonderful memories of Chet.
First, being "daddy" to my best friend, Rebecca Weigle Earhart and always being over at their house growing up. I remember the year - " There will be no Christmas at the Weigle house! " Riding horses, and eating "find the chip cookies", his taxidermy shop down in the basement, and the thrill of toilet papering Mr. Weigle`s house or helping Becky, clean the toilet paper up.

Next, being 1/2 of "Chet & Arnie - The Aggressors" at TTLC. All week there was a thrill of maybe hitting the aggressor with a water balloon or Tuesday night "watch night" when you´re sitting in the dark in the woods scared to death and Whack! you get hit with one of Chet´s, water balloons and you have to watch from your cabin as they smother your campfire with water balloons at 2 o´clock in the morning! The outbound trips to PA and MI. He gave us a map and dropped us off in the middle of nowhere. We had to find our food first and then set up a camp to sleep. So many stories!

Third, growing up in Mansfield Christian since first grade, and having Mr. Weigle as a Biology, Bible and Hunter Safety teacher. I learned so much from him. I always respected and loved him!
We love you Chet and will see you in Heaven!
Love,
Cilla (your "other"daughter, your TTLC camper & Sargent, your student and sister in Christ)
