Burgess Medley "Med" Allen, Jr.
Aiken - Burgess Medley "Med" Allen, Jr. 69, of Aiken, South Carolina, entered God's kingdom on September 17, 2022 while enjoying a beautiful South Carolina beach day after spending time with family and friends.
Med was born on July 8, 1953 in Wadesboro, N.C. a son of the late Burgess Medley & Pauline Moore Allen, Sr. The family would later move to Greenwood, S.C. and after he and his wife were married, the couple would make their home in Aiken, S.C. for the remainder of his life.
Med was the most loving and devoted husband, daddy & papa. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Amelia; daughters, Jennifer Allen Duncan (Lewis) and Insley Allen Kohler (Casey); granddaughters, Charley Jane Kohler and Medley Jo Kohler, and step grandchildren Enrique Duncan, Taylor Duncan, and Kayla Duncan; siblings, Linda Allen Tinsley, Sue Ann Allen Hamrick (Bryan), Edmond Allen; sister-in-law, Ellen Simpson; nieces and nephews, William D. Tinsley, III (Serene) Courtney Ashmore, Leander McGuigan (Stephen), Charles Allen, Forrest Hamrick (Alyssa), David Hamrick (Georgia), Brantlee Tinsley, Addison Hamrick (Camille), Jane Simpson, and Steve Simpson (Debbie).
Med graduated from Greenwood High School in 1971 and then attended Clemson University where his advanced education started, and he ran track on scholarship. Med graduated from Clemson in 1975 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and 1977 with a MS in Mechanical Engineering. Med retired from Savannah River Site and was a Nuclear Confinement Consultant for PU Projects. Med especially enjoyed traveling and spending quality time with family and close friends, beach living, Clemson Football, and entertaining friends. He was also an accomplished cook and loved to BBQ.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the Historic George Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Addison Hamrick officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00p.m. until 7:30p.m. Tuesday evening, September 20, 2022 at the Historic George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave SW, Aiken, SC 29801 (803) 649.6234.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to SPCA Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare, 199 Willow Run, Aiken, SC 29801 or to the Habitat for Humanity, 1026 Park Ave SE, Aiken, SC 29801.
