Ann Fleming Obituary

Fleming, Ann Carter

Passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2026 surrounded by family and love.

Born on February 6, 1947 to Tom and Marie (Rowland) Carter, Ann lived primarily in St. Louis, Missouri, with the exception of two years spent in Barrington, Rhode Island. She was preceded in death by her great-grandson Brodie and by her beloved husband of 56 years, James Dallas Fleming.

Ann was a devoted mother to Stephen (Kim) Fleming and Kris Fleming, sister to Carol Wolf and Wendy Foley, proud grandmother to Cameron (Rebecca) Fleming and Jackson (Ashley) Fleming, and great-grandmother to Ada and Everett. Her family was the center of her life, and she took great pride in the generations that followed her.

Ann had a deep passion for genealogy. She served on the board of the St. Louis Genealogical Society and the Friends of the Missouri State Archives. She was a past president of the National Genealogical Society and was named a Fellow of NGS, an honor bestowed on individuals who have rendered outstanding service to the field of genealogy. As a Certified Genealogist and Certified Genealogical Lecturer, she committed many years to researching and preserving family history and teaching others about genealogical research. She authored several family history books highlighting notable citizens, creating a lasting record of the lives and stories she so carefully documented.

Her legacy lives on in the genealogical collection of the St. Louis County Library's History & Genealogy Department. She was instrumental in the effort to combine the St. Louis Genealogical Society's extensive library with the National Genealogical Society's book collection, establishing one of the country's largest research centers.

Ann will be remembered for her dedication to family, her love of history, and the meaningful legacy she leaves through her writings and her loved ones.
