Robert Amer Obituary

Lt. Col. (ret.) Robert L. Amer of Huntington Beach, CA (born 1935 in Carbondale, PA) passed peacefully on October 7, 2023.Bob enlisted in the Air Force in 1957 and was commissioned in 1958; he had a long and illustrious 22 year military career. During his service in Vietnam, he was awarded the Bronze Star as well as several Oak Leaf Clusters during friendly foreign forces engaged in an armed conflict against an opposing armed force. Throughout his time in the Air Force the family moved to many parts of the U.S.A. and abroad. While accepting command posts, he managed to complete a MBA in Mathematics and a MBA in Business Administration; he also belonged to the "Elite Toast Masters" which he thoroughly enjoyed. After leaving the military, Bob accepted employment with McDonnell Douglas/Boeing where he retired after 25 years of service. He performed multiple management duties, such as AI (1988) software project. He was recognized for his accomplishments as the special project program manager, significantly advancing the process capabilities of the Avionics-IPT C-17 Analysis. He was awarded many accolades for his outstanding leadership in the field of computer science.Dedicated and recognized for many achievements throughout his careers, Bob was also well liked and respected by his colleagues and staff. Always humble, kind, generous, and witty, he loved jazz music and enjoyed socializing with family and friendly neighbors in his golden years. The Orange County Lyon Air Museum was very pleased to have had Bob volunteered as a 10 year senior docent. Bob is preceded in death by his parents Eli and Ann, his wife Lorraine and his sister Helen.He is survived by sisters Ida and Elaine, step-sons Albert, David, and Mitchell, daughters in law Bonnie, Andree, and Nicolette and granddaughter Alexandra.Bob will join his parents along with his wife at Arlington National Cemetery, in Arlington VA, in the spring.The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for all the words of comfort and prayers received during Bob's passing.He will be missed, but never forgotten.

Still get a pang when we look directly across the street to your old home we miss you both so much - as do our two boys who I think ate more meals at your home than ours! they truly were grandsons and you both wonderful grandparents - still have heartache at this time of year knowing boys wont be needed any longer to put up your christmas decorations and tree - loved you both

He was my father's first cousin. I knew his dad and mom (my Uncle Lee and Aunt Ann) as we lived in close proximity to them in Miami. I knew his sisters too, but I never met Cousin Bob. He seems to have lived an adventuresome and productive life. Best to the family.
