Rebecca Gunderson Obituary

Longtime Anchorage resident Rebecca Gunderson, 57, passed away peacefully at home on April 26, 2014.

Becky was born in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, however her family moved to Anchorage just 2 short years later. She graduated from West Anchorage High School in 1974. Shortly thereafter, she spent several years in Oklahoma raising her daughters before returning to the only place she considered home, Alaska. She later married her husband, Russell and expanded her family further by having her only son, Gus. Besides her family, her passion was her involvement in the horse community and enjoying the great outdoors.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Russell; her wonderful children, Juli, Shanon, Stephanie and Augustus; her brother, Michael Stone and sister-in-law, Melody and their three children, Amanda, Adrianna, and Alison; four grandchildren, Liana, Makenzie, Evan and Baby Delmundo on the way, plus countless lifelong friends.

Becky was preceded in death by her mother, Marguerite DeSpain; step-father, George DeSpain; father, Norman Stone Jr.; and brother, Stephen Stone.

A Celebration of Life will be held this summer in Anchorage. Her ashes will be spread by her loving family, doing what she enjoyed most, horseback riding through the beautiful trails in Alaska.

Arrangements were cared for by the Anchorage Funeral Home and Crematory. Please visit Rebecca's obituary and online guestbook at www.AlaskanFuneral.com.

Was so saddened to hear about Becky today. Bill sent me a note as I am still working through my grief in the Lower 48. It is a rough time but the good memories do emerge as the ones you remember. But it takes time. I remember when Becky came back to AK and she boarded her horse with Colleen's at our house. Those are some great memories as two childhood friends reconnected and horses once again ruled the day. Becky was all smiles and laughter. Russell - remember to breathe. We are here for you.
