Ray Hitt Obituary

Mr. Ray C. Hitt
NORTH AUGUSTA, SC - Funeral Services for Mr. Ray C. Hitt, 89, of East Summit Avenue, North Augusta, SC, who entered into rest October 4, 2014, will be conducted Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock from the Posey Funeral Chapel. Rev. Jerry T. Matthews officiating. Interment in Pineview Memorial Gardens with Veterans Honors and Masonic Rites.
Mr. Hitt was a life-long resident of North Augusta and husband of the late Virgie Hitt. He was a member of First Baptist Church of North Augusta, the Stan Bryant Sunday School Class and served as an Usher for 50 years. Mr. Hitt was a US Army Veteran of World War II having obtained the rank of Technical Sargent and was a member of the Acacia Masonic Lodge #315 AFM, the American Legion Jesse C. Lynch Memorial Post #71 and a former Volunteer with the North Augusta Fire Department. He retired from the Georgia Railroad and Boral Brick. Mr. Hitt was a Pitcher with the Augusta Tigers pro baseball team and was an avid Fisherman and Woodworker.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Belton Weeks, North Augusta; a son and daughter-in-law, Duane and Gitte Hitt, Monroe, Georgia; a granddaughter and her husband, Meredith W. and Kevin Leopard; two step great granddaughters, Savannah Leopard and Emma Grace Leopard; a brother, Malcolm T. Hitt.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Stan Bryant Sunday School Class and the Acacia Masonic Lodge #315 AFM. Active Pallbearers will be Alfred Evans, Charles Kropp, Paul Sample, Keith Cawthon, Raiford Rosson and Larry Hitt.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 5 until 7.
Memorials may be made to the American Legion Jesse C. Lynch Memorial Post #71 Building Fund, P.O. Box 6036, North Augusta, SC 29861.
