Although Maxine and I lived far apart and were not able to see each other very often, I nevertheless miss her still. She was one in a million, and I am not likely to know someone like her again. She was a loving, gracious, kind, warm, and welcoming lady. I am privileged to have known her and to have married into her family. I have wonderful memories of her--which always put a smile on my face. To have made a difference in someone's life is one of the most important things we can do on this Earth. She definitely made an enormous impact on the lives of everyone she knew.

As someone who married into the Matthews family, Maxine warmly welcomed me. I spent some wonderful times during the Masters around her dining room table hearing (and recording) stories from the other members of the clan. Maxine was a kind and thoughtful lady who had a wonderful sense of humor. She was totally dedicated to her family. I loved her and respected her. To all her family and friends who are mourning her loss, I extend my love and sympathy. -- Marian Matthews
