Mary Starr Arrington Obituary

Mary Louise Starr Arrington, born April 20, 1934 in Mount Vernon, Washington to Murray and Alice Starr, peacefully passed away on July 2, 2014, at 80 years of age. Mary grew up in Van Zandt with her parents until her father's death when she was 10 years old. Growing up surrounded by her extended family after her father's death, Mary graduated from Bellingham High School, attended Brigham Young University, and graduated from Western Washington State College. Mary and Robert Taylor were married in 1955, blessed with four children in their 25 years of marriage. She worked for the Whatcom County Library and was known as the 'bookmobile lady' in the 1980s and 90s. Mary and Howard Arrington were married in 2000 in the Bellevue, Washington Temple of the Church of Latter Day Saints, and enjoyed 14 very happy years together. Mary was a loving, adventurous, and exuberant woman who loved life and lived it to its fullest. She made countless friends over the years who will miss her smile and her laughter. She was an incredibly talented quilt artist and a member of the Evergreen Quilters Guild. She loved to travel and learn about new places and people. She was also a great hostess who welcomed everyone into her home for many celebrations. Most of all she loved her family who, in their turn, loved her very much and will miss her every day. Mary is survived by her husband, Howard, her children Bob (Christine), Murray (Sandra), David, and Melanie (Jeffrey), grandchildren Rachel (Michael), Jonathan, Robin, Nathaniel, and Jacob, and her great-grandchild, Maddox. A memorial service will be held on July 12 @ 6:30 pm at the LDS Stake Center, 2550 Thornton Rd, Ferndale WA.

Mary was a great inspiration to all of us in our little quilt group, Fat Quarters. We've been meeting for retreats at Camp Casey on Whidbey Island for 30 some years! Mary always came with a pile of library books on quilting to share. Before she met and married Howard, Mary, Susan Wells and I went on a road trip to Sisters Oregon for their outdoor show. I'll forever remember all the fun we had together on that trip! Just last month we were at Camp Casey together, Mary just for the day, and, as usual, Mary showed us a new trick to make a traditional quilt block. She had her sketch pad and pencil, jotting ideas for another quilt design. She was our inspiration! We all loved her dearly and will miss her so very much!
