Mary Grace Murff Schilling
AIKEN - Mary Grace Murff Schilling, 79, passed away at Aiken Regional Medical Center on August 11, 2017. A native of Nashville, Tennessee, Mary Grace was a graduate of West End High School and Vanderbilt University, where she received a bachelors degree in psychology. She earned her masters degree in psychology from Fisk University and later, a masters + 30 from University of South Carolina. She was a school psychologist with Nashville Metro and Lexington I school district, retiring in 1998. In addition, she was a beauty queen having won several contests - most notably Miss Nashville High School in 1955 and Vanderbilt's Miss Commodore during her college years. Mary Grace long championed civil rights causes from early childhood. She was charitable to a fault and kind to a friend. She was also an excellent amateur artist and was engaged in the antique business in Columbia and Charleston South Carolina.
Mary Grace is survived by her husband, Frank Schilling of Aiken; sons Dan Clayton of Columbia and Gates McNeilly of Atlanta; a sister Janice Struchen of Nashville; two nieces, Jenni Murff of Gatlinburg and Lindy Murff of Ashland City; a cousin, Carol Murff Stump of Naples, Florida; and close friend, Tricia Ulch of Prosperity, South Carolina.
Arrangements are with Hatcher Funeral Home, Langley, South Carolina. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association.
