The Honorable Marion Duffie McGowan
AUGUSTA, GA - The Honorable Marion Duffie McGowan, age 86, born December 21, 1927 in Aiken County (Bath) S.C. was called to his Heavenly Home on December 2, 2014 from Kentwood Nursing Home, Augusta, Ga., where he had been a resident since January 17, 2007.
He was a former member of the S.C. House of Representatives (D) District No. 84-Aiken County and owner of McGowan Furniture Company and McGowan Carpet Cleaning Company. Marion was a WWII Veteran serving in the USAF and the National Guard. Until his illness, he was a committed member of the Augusta Primitive Baptist Church, the American Legion Post #77 in Warrenville, S.C. and the Forty and Eight.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Ida Leen Hendrix McGowan; his parents, Duffie David and Sally Jane Hall McGowan and son-in-law, Ralph "Chuck" Cliatt.
He was the only child and was survived by two children: a daughter, Joyce Ann McGowan Cliatt of Martinez, Ga.; a son, Marion Danny McGowan of Augusta, Ga.; three grandchildren, Amanda Leigh and Chea Addison Cliatt, Marion Devin McGowan; two great-grandchildren, Ava and Rylee-Ella Cliatt; four step grandchildren, Bruce A. Cliatt and Christie Cliatt Ferrell, Laura Clark Walker and Jennifer Clark Doherty; eight step great-grandchildren and numerous loving cousins and friends.
A funeral service, celebrating his life, will be held at the place he always held dear to his heart "The Valley" and at the Funeral Home that served his parents and wife, Napier's at 3:00 PM on Sunday, December 14, 2014 with his cousin, the Rev. James Kight officiating, assisted by his brother-in-law, Pastor Carlton Hendrix.
A private burial will be held at Westview Cemetery in Augusta, Ga. The family would like to extend a heartfeld "Thank You" to their extended family at Kentwood for lovingly take care of "Buddy", as they affectionately called him.
