In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his brothers-in-law Jim Martin of Mesa, Arizona and Lonnie Garrelts of Buckley, Illinois, and sister-in-law Barbara (Marvin) Logan of Wapakoneta.

He always loved baseball and growing up in Buckley, Illinois, gave him that opportunity with a baseball diamond located in his back yard. He enjoyed many games with his brothers and nephews one of which became a professional baseball player for the San Francisco Giants (Scott Garrelts). He enjoyed coaching Little League baseball at Shawnee while his girls were in school. One of the players on his team was Brad Komminsk who went on to play for Atlanta. He also loved to fish and hunt. Donald was an avid Chicago Bears and St. Louis Cardinal's fan.
Donald attended Buckley Community High School graduating in 1952. After school, he worked for a company that built silos over seven states and worked for many farmers in his community. In 1957, he was drafted into the Army at Fort Carson, Colorado. He went to electronics school in Fort Monmoth, New Jersey, and finished his schooling in Red Stone Arsenal In Alabama with a degree in electrical engineering.
While in the service, he met Marvin Logan from Lima, and became good friends. Marvin introduced him to his fiancé's sister (Martha) who became his loving wife of 50 years. After the service, he moved to Lima, and went to work at Lima Cement Products on March 12, 1959. He retired on Oct 2, 2001. After retiring from LCP, he delivered flowers for Don Johnson Florist in Lima.
Don was an outgoing sociable person who could strike up a conversation with anyone he met. After his wife passed away, he moved from Wapakoneta to St. Marys with his beloved cats, Butterscotch and Peaches to be closer to his daughter and grandchildren. He loved passing out gold dollars to children along with their parents or anyone he stopped to talk to. While in St. Marys, he met some very special people who became dear friends. I am so sorry to learn of Don´s passing. I have known him for years seeing him at the Dentist office. I always enjoyed visiting with him. He was such a kind person. I actually tried calling him today to check on him and when the number was disconnected I found out he had passed away. Praying for his family.
