Catherine Sullivan Obituary

Sullivan - Catherine V., wife, a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, died peacefully at home surrounded by family. Catherine, the family matriarch, lived every minute of her 101 years, bringing love, laughter, and joy to all around her. She will be missed beyond words.

Catherine was born on March 27, 1920 to Herbert

Bernard Hauser and Mary

Flynn Hauser. One of five children, Catherine was predeceased by her husband, Robert Sullivan, and her siblings, Jean Allen, Edna Woehr, Edward Hauser, and Herb Hauser. She often described an idyllic childhood in Jamaica, Queens with activities centered around Our Lady of the Cenacle Parish.

She worked as a travel agent for American Airlines, stopped working to raise her five children, and went back to selling real estate in New Hyde Park after that. Catherine married Bob Sullivan on January 27, 1945 when he returned from overseas after the war. As a Great Generation couple, Bob worked and went to Law School nights. By the time he graduated they had 3 children and one on the way. She did it all to make that happen causing Bob to put her name on his law degree. During their 50 years together, they raised 5 children Bob (Jackie), Mary (Jack), Tom (Barbara), Kathy (Steve), and Owen (Jo Marie). Catherine loved family, friends, golf, real estate, and Italian food. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anne's Church 35 Dartmouth St. Garden City on Wednesday, January 26 at 10 am with entombment at Holy Rood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please take a loved one to dinner and have a glass of wine.
