In Loving Memory of William "Franklin" Jones Sr.

William "Franklin" Jones Sr. of Madison, NH, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. He was born on Tuesday, February 23, 1932, at his grandparent's house in Chocorua, NH.

From a young age, Franklin demonstrated ambition and a strong sense of responsibility. During a period when his father was ill for an extended time, Franklin worked various jobs to help support his family. At the age of 12, he was employed loading freight cars with ammunition boxed for J.F. Chick, during World War II, also working at the Chocorua Village store.

At the age of 14, Franklin embarked on an early journey of responsibility and independence. During his summer vacation, he left home to take on a job at a resort in Randolph, NH. This experience marked the beginning of his strong work ethic and willingness to contribute from a young age, qualities that would continue to define him throughout his life.

Franklin attended Kennett High School, where he successfully completed his studies and graduated in June of 1951. As a student, he was athletic and enjoyed playing basketball and baseball, often alongside friends who would remain close to him throughout his life.

After graduating from high school, Franklin enlisted in the United States Navy in November of 1951. He served aboard the USS Pittsburg and the USS Irwin until his separation from service in November of 1954. During his time in the Navy, Franklin had the unique experience of serving alongside his brothers, Richard and Russell, who were stationed on the same ship with him for a period.

Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, Franklin resumed work in his local community. He secured a position from the Kennett Company, where he worked in logging operations alongside his father. Franklin was employed by Chick Lumber/Chick Industrial Packaging for 34 years until he retired.

Franklin was a man of many interests and hobbies that brought him both joy and recognition. He found peace in the outdoors, spending much of his free time hunting and fishing. His love for the land was also evident in the impressive gardens he grew, which became well known among family and friends for their quality and abundance.

Another pastime that Franklin cherished was working with firewood. He took particular satisfaction in every step of the process- from cutting the trees to stacking the logs and finally carrying the wood to the stove. This routine was more than a chore for Franklin; it was an activity he genuinely enjoyed and took pride in, reflecting his appreciation for hard work and the simple pleasures of life.

On August 8, 1953 Franklin married Olive, the love of his life. Their union marked the beginning of a lifelong partnership filled with devotion and mutual support. Franklin and Olive built a home together, sharing both the joys and challenges that life presented. Their deep bond was evident to all who knew then, and their marriage served as a foundation for the family that would grow around them. Franklin was predeceased by his wife Olive, his parents, Harry Frank Jones and Ruth Eleanor (Fortier) Jones. He also lost his siblings Richard Jones, Jeane McGinnis, and Bruce Jones. In addition, his daughter-in-law, Kris Sawyer Jones, passed away before him.

Franklin is lovingly remembered by his sister, Gail Dewolf, and her husband, Robert. He is also survived by his devoted children; Wayne Jones and his wife, Candy, William Jones Jr. and his wife, Jacinta, Andrea Wilson and her husband, David and Jeffery Jones.

His legacy lives on through his nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Each of them brought immense happiness into Franklin's life, and they continue to honor his memory and the values he cherished.
