Wilfred Adams Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Martin Funeral Home - Downtown on Dec. 19, 2025.
Wilfred John "Willie" Adams, Jr., 68, of Butler, unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2025.

Born July 5, 1957, in Butler, he was a son of Camilla Spohn Adams and the late Wilfred John Adams, Sr.

Willie was most recently the chairman of the Summit Township Board of Supervisors, a post he held since he first took office in 2012. He previously had served on the township planning commission.

A certified master watch and clock repair technician, he owned Sights and Sounds Unlimited.

Willie was always a hard worker. His entrepreneurial spirit was apparent in his youth when he started as a newspaper carrier. Although he attended college, he left before graduating to go out on his own as a self-employed businessman. He obtained his second-class electrical license and launched a television repair business, an antenna installation business, and a very successful car stereo business before taking up watch and clock repair. He was so highly regarded and respected as a watch and clock repair technician that he attracted customers from throughout the United States who entrusted him with their timepieces.

Willie was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Peter Roman Catholic Church.

He was a lifetime member of the Summit Township Sportsman's Club and was serving as the club's vice president. He was also a member of the American Watchmakers-Clockmakers Institute.

He enjoyed making homemade wine and cutting and chopping wood.

He is survived by his loving wife, Donna Susan "Sue" Geist Adams, whom he married May 30, 1981; his mother, Camilla Spohn Adams; three stepsons, Tim Varan and his wife, Susan, of Maitland, Fla., Dr. Richard Varan and his wife, YiPing, of Portland, Ore., and Jason Varan and his wife, Emily, of Atlanta, Ga.; three siblings, Pam Williams and her husband, John, of Seven Fields, Cheryl Chiprean and her husband, Jim "Checkers", of Gibsonia, and Brad Adams and his wife, Leslie, of Gibsonia.

He is also survived by four grandchildren, Andrew Varan and his wife, Colleen, Kathryn Varan, Olivia Varan, and Aria Varan; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wilfred John Adams, Sr.

Friends will be received in the Martin Funeral Home Downtown, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, on Sunday, Dec. 21, from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, at All Saints Parish, St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 127 Franklin St., Butler, with Rev. Kevin C. Fazio officiating.

Burial will take place in St. Peter's Cemetery.

As a customer of Willie's, I took a couple of clocks to him within the past two years. One was mine, the other one was my Mother's. To us the clocks were doomed, but Willie put them back to service. We have those clocks providing us the correct time. Thanks to him. The Butler community will miss his skill, kindness and friendliness. You have our sympathy, Sue and Leslie Morrow
