Elsie Mary Walsh (nee Schutz) died peacefully on November 1, 2024, in Blue Bell, PA. Elsie was born in Hellertown, PA on October 17, 1929, to Anton and Mary Schutz. She graduated from Moravian College in 1950 with a degree in secretarial studies. In 1952 she married John J. Walsh and together they raised five children. Moving twice with John's career at IBM, the family lived in Endicott, NY, Stamford, CT and Potomac, MD. She worked as a legal secretary for nine years before retiring in 1984.
Her grandchildren started arriving in 1983. She took great delight in watching them grow and was always happy to babysit. Elsie loved to sew, knit, garden, read the daily newspaper and was always ready for a good crossword puzzle! Her favorite vacation was family trips to the beach, and she enjoyed numerous trips to Europe with family and her church group.
Elsie's superpowers, of which she had many, include taking flying lessons and flying an airplane solo; her lifelong ability to take shorthand notes and speed-type; her eagle eyes which spotted 4-leaf clovers from great distances; and her patience and stoicism which set a wonderful example for the family.
She was predeceased by her husband John, and brother William. She is survived by her children: Ellen (Ted) Dimm, Carol Walsh, Joseph (Marianne), Anne (John) Mueller and William (Brooke), fifteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, her brothers Albert and John Schutz and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 10:00 AM at St. Elizabeth Church, 917 Montrose Rd, Rockville, MD 20852
