Darla was born on November 10, 1956 to Darwin and Joyce (Runnings) Fredrickson at Cherokee, Iowa. She attended Meriden-Cleghorn High School, graduating in 1975. She was united in marriage on August 22, 1975 to Loren Wester; together they had two children, Lara and Ward. Over the years, Darla wore many hats but her #1 job was always being a mom and grandma.

She was a member of the Meriden Evangelical Free Church at Meriden, Iowa.
While in Florida Darla loved spending time at the beach collecting seashells. In Iowa she enjoyed her home in the woods observing the wildlife. She kept an eye out for special gifts for loved ones and friends whenever she shopped, and spent countless hours in her gift wrapping room. She was known for sending handwritten letters, notes, and cards to all of her friends.

She was preceded in death by her father Darwin Fredrickson, mother-in-law and father-in-law Elsie and Roy Wester.
Darla will lovingly be remembered by her husband of 50 years, Loren Wester of Meriden, Iowa; daughter Lara and David Jimerson of Leland, North Carolina; son Ward and Sarah Wester of Nevada, Iowa; two grandchildren Farren and Coen Wester of Nevada, Iowa; mother Joyce Fredrickson of Okoboji, IA; brother Ward and Barb Fredrickson of Bismarck, North Dakota.
