William Mackay Obituary

William "Willie" Thomas Mackay, 62, of Galivants Ferry, South Carolina, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 2, 2025. Born in Baltimore, Maryland on December 14, 1962, William led a life shaped by quiet courage, steady hands, and a deep sense of responsibility to his family, his country, and the work he took pride in. He is survived by his devoted wife, Lisa Mackay; two sons, William and Joseph; siblings, Johnny (Michelle), Kathy, and Rosie; nieces and nephews, Brandon, Brian (Brittany), Ashley, Charlie (Mackenzie), and Brittany. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Nora Matthews Thompkins, his father, Billy Lee Thompkins, his brother, Thomas Carlton, and his niece, Krystal McKinney. A proud veteran, William served his country with honor for four years in the United States Army with the 82nd Airborne Division. After his military service, he built a respected career as both an electrician and a brick mason. He was known for his craftsmanship and relentless work ethic. William was a man of deep thought and simple joys. He loved spending many summers playing baseball with his family and friends. He was a lifelong New York Yankees fan. He found peace in classical music and spent countless hours immersed in history books, always eager to learn more about the world and those who came before. William's life was a quiet example of dedication to his family, his work, and living life to its fullest. He will be remembered not only for the strength of his hands but for the kindness of his heart, the depth of his knowledge, and the love he gave to those around him. The family will receive friends from 4pm until 6pm Monday, August 4, 2025 at Watson Funeral Services. Funeral Services will be held 11am, Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at Mt. Yesterday

I worked at AVX with Willie back in the mid 90s. He taught me everything there was to know about that company. I hated the day he left to start his own business. I'll never forget, Willie was working and he turned to say something to me. His face was swollen pretty bad. I said Willie, who hit you? He said I've got a bad tooth. I said you should be home. He said I can hurt at home, or I can be here making money while I hurt. That stuck with me throughout my working career. If I ever thought of calling in sick, I would remember Willie.
I will be praying for Lisa and the kids.
