William Barber Obituary
William Darryl "Bill" Barber Sr., 73, passed away at his home on September 1, 2025 in Conway, SC surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born to the late Lewis and Eva Barber on November 28, 1951 in Ypsilanti, MI. He later moved to Whitmore Lake and then to Conway where he would finish his career and retire.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sisters, Patricia Kurth, Marsha Barber, Brenda Kurth, Terry Barber and his brothers Sonny Barber, Brian Barber and Joe Foster.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jackie ("Jack"), whom he shared 44 years with, his sons Billy Barber, Darryl Barber (Sonja), Ty Barber (Skipper) and daughter Ashley Barber ( Chris Thompson), his siblings Barry Barber (Becky Curry), Roger Barber (Debi), Jon Barber (Roni), Sheila Keeney (Kalvin), Tina Bond (Jim), Bonita Kniffen (Dan), Scott Barber (Wendy), grandchildren Breanna, Katlyn, Brayden, Tyrion, Avery, 3 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
Bill began his legacy in the roofing industry when he was 18 years old, eventually obtaining a lifetime Journeyman's status. He served as the President of the Roofer's Local 70 in Ann Arbor, MI for 20 years prior to opening and operating his own successful roofing company for an additional 20 years. This field of work kept him busy until his retirement.
Bill was also an avid classic car buff! He absolutely loved the challenge of finding the ugliest car he could find and, using his talents, transforming it to the most beautiful piece of machinery! Filled with pride, he rolled into many car shows and rolled out with a first-place win! He once owned 13 classic cars at one time and he was in heaven!
He believed in our 2nd amendment and was a lifetime member of the NRA. Being outdoors was his preference. Hunting, fishing in his pond, or just hanging out with family and friends on his well-manicured land. He loved to learn about space and history – and would strike up a conversation about these topics any chance he got!
He was a proud coach and sponsor of his son's and grandson's journey with t-ball and all throughout their baseball years with Little League. He loved the sport and sharing his knowledge!
Bill took a very active role in the life of his grandson Brayden, sharing life skills and caring for him like a son. Some lessons were hard, some were fun – but they are all lessons and memories that will be carried for a lifetime.
Spending time with his children was a favorite past time. He cherished the time he spent with Billy Jr each year at the annual deer camp in Northern Michigan, passing on a long family tradition. They enjoyed this time together and with extended family and friends.
He watched Darryl with the utmost pride as he achieved life goals that many said was supposed to be "unachievable". Darryl is thriving and Bill can rest easy knowing his son is winning, against all odds.
Although he loved his sons, Bill yearned for a daughter. His wish was granted with Ashley and from day one, he referred to her as his "favorite daughter" and called "Ashley Baby!"
His heart would melt with pride when he would speak of Ty, who is currently serving our country at JBLM in Tacoma, WA with the Military Police. At the time of his dads passing, he is ranked as a Specialist in the US Army. Bill was so very proud of his excellent marksmanship skills which earned him some prestigious metals.
Bill was proud of all of his children and enjoyed watching them grow into loving, caring adults.
He will be missed by all who knew him. His sense of humor. His wittiness. His willingness to help anyone in need. But most importantly, just his presence here on Earth.
Bill requested no memorial service, as he wished to be known for his life legacy, not in death. Please remember Bill and your personal relationship with him……cherish the memories.
