Wayne Chestnut Obituary

Wayne Norton Chestnut, 85, passed away at Spring Oak at Conway on Wednesday, July 3, 2025. Born November 11, 1939 in Conway, Wayne was the son of the late William Hulon and Maybelle Holt Chestnut. In addition to his parents, Wayne was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Tarte Chestnut; a brother, William Arland Chestnut; a sister, Paula Edwards and her husband, J. P. Edwards; two nieces, Terry Edwards and Tonya Wenum and his brothers-in-law, Bill Tarte and Don Roush. Wayne was a 1957 graduate of Conway High School. He received a Bachelors and Masters Degree from the University of South Carolina. Wayne was a retired foreign language teacher with the Horry County School District. He was an active member of Aynor Methodist Church. He was previously a member of Conway First Baptist Church and Aynor First Baptist Church, both of which he served in many roles. Wayne was also an active participant of The Theatre of the Republic in Conway where he served with enthusiasm and dedication whether cast in a major role or walk-on or just ushering in the lobby. He was a charter member, was on its first board of directors and has been designated a Lifetime Board Member. He wrote the first history of The Theatre titled Magic to Do! Survivors include Alan Rogers and his wife Yolanda of Surfside Beach; his grandson, Alex Rogers of Surfside Beach; his grand niece, Bellamy Kijsamnong and her husband Daniel of Columbia; his brother-in-law, Fred Tarte (Gail) of Aynor, his sister-in-law, Allene Roush of Surfside Beach; his sister-in-law, Linda Terry (Dickie) of Columbia; and his sister-in-law, Judy Johnson (Dale) of Aynor, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be missed by all who knew him. A curtain call will be held at 3:00pm, Sunday, July 6, 2025 at Aynor Methodist Church with the Reverend Kelly Snelgrove officiating. Burial will follow at Aynor Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Aynor Methodist Church beginning at 2:00pm prior to the service on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorial donations be made to Aynor Methodist Church, P.O. Box 348, Aynor, SC 29511 or The Theatre of the Republic, 335 Main St., Conway, SC 29526.
