Walter Harkins Obituary

Walter Elliot Harkins, Sr., 89, of Murrells Inlet, SC, peacefully passed away on July 13, 2025, at Angel Oak Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Walter was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Walter EB and Veronica Fallon Harkins. In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his loving wife, Margaret; and his sisters, Mary Harkins, Bernice Zimmer, Patricia Nussy and Veronica Smith. Walter is survived by his two sons, Walter Harkins, Jr. of Queens, NY and Paul Harkins of Nassau County, NY; and his two grandsons, Christopher Harkins and Thomas Harkins of Queens, NY. A proud US Marine, Walter served in the Corps in Korea from 1953 to 1955. He was a Detective First Grade of the Manhattan South Homicide Squad where he served from 1959 until 1998. After his retirement from the police force, he moved to Murrells Inlet, SC in 2000. A memorial service for Walter will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Murrells Inlet VFW, 4359 Hwy 17 Bypass, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576.
