W. Holmes Obituary

Longs, SC Mr. W. L. Holmes, Jr., age 77, of Longs, SC passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on August 7, 2025, after his second battle with cancer. Born April 5, 1948 in Conway, SC, W.L. was a loving and devoted husband, father, and friend. He was a well-known and respected member of Horry County. Over the years he built a successful farming and timber operation and was a beloved member of the Tilly Swamp and Wampee communities. He was known by everyone! He devoted his life to hard work and family. To know him was to love him. If he said it, he meant it and if he had your back, you were in a good place. A friend told us today, "Horry County lost a giant today". He left a mark on so many. His absolute joy was his grandchildren. He was a proud Poppy! W.L. was pre-deceased by his wife of 24 years, Dianne Todd Holmes; his father, W. L. Holmes, and mother Ollene W. Holmes; his sister, Cathy Reaves (Jimmy); his special aunt and uncle, Quince and Lottie Adams; his precious grandmother, Margaret Holmes; his grandsons, Landon Holmes and Chandler Holmes; and grand-daughters, Regan Richardson and Sadrienne Holmes. He is survived by his children whom he loved very much, Jamie W. Holmes (Ashley) of Longs and Amy H. Richardson (Bryan) of Aynor; his loving girlfriend Charletta "Charlie" Lucas of Longs; his sister Donna Gravely (Vince) of Conway; his grandchildren Olivia H. Owens (Logan) of Conway, Donovan Harris and Lakyn Holmes of Longs, and Reese Richardson and JB Richardson of Aynor; his beloved dog Shelby; and so many special nieces, nephews, cousins, other extended family, and friends. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 9, 2025 at 3:00PM at Salem Baptist Church in Aynor, officiated by Pastor Ken Herrington. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary at 2:00PM and then after the service as well at the home of Jamie Holmes.
