Velma Lesley Obituary

Velma Elizabeth Lesley of Conway, S.C., peacefully departed to heaven to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 4, 2025, at the age of 99. Velma was born in Pickens, S.C., on July 27, 1925, to the late Ernest Tilman and Clovie Alice Patterson. From an early age, she was lovingly raised by her Uncle William and Aunt Essie Lewis, where she mastered a strong devotion to her Heavenly Father. During this time, she began a lifelong love of gospel music by singing in the family troupe at churches and tent revivals. Waiting for their heavenly hugs are her devoted husband of 47 years, Daniel M. Lesley, Sr.; daughters, Barbara and Karen; son, Richard; grandchildren, Bill and Heidi; sisters, Lois, Ruby and Ruth. Velma's greatest attribute to all who knew her was her "love". Rarely could you leave her presence without an "I love you" following. Left behind to miss her is a son, Daniel M. Lesley, Jr. (Nancy) and a daughter, Sandra L. Plance, 6 grandchildren, Chris, Wendy, Adam, Jennifer, Bryan and Derrik, 16 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces. Velma was a faithful member of Langston Baptist Church for 57 years, and joyously sang in the choir for the majority of her time there. She was employed with Woods Dime Store and Kmart for 23 years. The family would like to give a special thanks to Annette Rogers of Atlantic Healthcare for her 3 years of love and devotion, and Heartland Hospice for their assistance. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at Langston Baptist Church with Rev. Brandon Blair and Rev. Bruce Davenport officiating. Entombment will follow at the Hillcrest Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM Tuesday at the church.
