Urilla "Rill" Hills, 80, of Conway SC passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026 at Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach SC.
Born in Neptune, New Jersey and raised in Manasquan, Rill graduated from Manasquan High School in 1964. She lived in several places throughout her life before finding her true home in
Conway, South Carolina, where she spent her retirement years.
She is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Darryl Hills; her children, Jason Sager and Sherry Sager Williams; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and her brother, Lee Edick. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Edick Sr. and Essie Newbury Edick; her brother, Walter Edick Jr.; and her son, Richard Sager Jr.
Memorial services will be scheduled at a later date, when she will be laid to rest with her son.
Throughout her life, Rill wore many hats. Her careers included cosmetology, social work, business ownership, and radio broadcasting. In her younger years, she raised and showed dogs in American Kennel Club competitions, played the piano and accordion, and performed in The King and I at the Red Oak Music Theatre in Lakewood, New Jersey. She also volunteered with 4-H, raising puppies for the Seeing Eye Foundation in Morristown, New Jersey.
But perhaps the best way to remember her are the words she wrote and shared on her 80th birthday:
"The best years of my life were being an American Kennel Club licensed professional dog show handler, knowing Barry Manilow before people knew who he was, having my three children, owning a home in Nejecho Beach, and meeting my present husband.
With him I have lived in many areas of the country I never thought I would even visit. Each place we lived was an experience-from a Category 5 hurricane to tornadoes coming down the street with lightning that caught the house on fire. I've seen it all.
And speaking of seeing it all, I always wanted to see Mount Rushmore. Thanks to my first husband, I got to see that in person, as well as traveling from New Jersey to Spokane, Washington, and back again.
There's so much more, but I've already babbled on to the point where no one is listening. With that, I wish each and every one of you that you too will live to be 80+ years old and someday have time to reflect on your past years and experiences.
Love to all."
Rill had a deep love for flowers and often said that if people gave flowers throughout life, rather than only after someone is gone, it would bring so much more joy. We made sure she was surrounded by flowers throughout her life, just as she wished. In honor of her memory and wishes, we kindly ask that in lieu of flowers, you consider making a small donation toward the expenses of having her and her beloved son laid to rest together in the family plot in New Jersey. https://gofund.me/6e8f6dba4
