Shirley Campbell Obituary

Shirley M. Campbell, 94, of Pawleys Island, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 17th, 2025. Born in Springfield, Massachusetts on February 21st, 1931, to the late Minnie A. Watson and John T. Gwilliam. Also pivotal in Shirley's life was her stepfather, Aaron Blatt, who had been in her life since she was a little girl. She attended Commerce High School and graduated in 1949. After her high school graduation, she was employed by the International Motor Car Company in West Springfield. She met her future husband, William G. Campbell, at a local dance and the two were engaged on Christmas Eve 1950 and married on April 21st, 1951. Shortly after, they moved into their first home in Springfield, Massachusetts, where they lived for 6 years. In 1957 the family moved to South Florida to live closer to Shirley's and Bill's parents. The entire family enjoyed the South Florida lifestyle and long summers. They spent most weekends at the local beach visiting their grandparents. In 1980 they built a mountain home in Foscoe, North Carolina. They had the best of both worlds and cherished the warm ocean breeze of South Florida in the winter months and the cool summer weather in the mountains. Shirley and Bill enjoyed their retirement years traveling to over 13 countries and all over the United States. After 46 years of marriage Bill went home to be with the Lord. Bill's passing and her time alone drew Shirley even closer to the Lord. In 2006 Shirley married Michael Long and they were married until his death in 2012. In 2012 she moved to Pawley's Island, SC, making many friends everywhere she went. She was active at her church, First Baptist Church of Georgetown, and was loved by her Ruth Sunday School Class. She was also active in the Young as Ever senior group, where she attended every month. Shirley never met a stranger. She was a shining light and the life of the party everywhere she went. She was loved by all and will be greatly missed. We miss her already, but we are at peace knowing she is with her Lord and Savior, and we will see her again. Shirley is survived by 3 sons, Scott (Cathy), Barry (Beata), Brian (Lillian) and 1 daughter, Sharon (Kenneth), 16 grandchildren, Melissa, Jennifer, Ashlyn, Jeremy, Joseph, Kelsey, Steven, Jonathan, David, Matt, Tyler, Kaley, Carson, Linda, Dustin and Dallas, 22 great grandchildren Sarah, Kayla, Andrew, Anna, June, Janelle, Ben, Joy, Jeremiah, Madelyn, Kaelyn, Josiah, Wesley, Ainsley, Micah, Jude, Caralyn, Spencer, Jon Jr., Nicholas, Wrenley and Alina and 1 great-great grandchild, Elias. The family is still growing with a 3rd great grandchild and a 2nd great-great grandchild on the way. A Celebration of Life service will be held at First Baptist Church of Georgetown, 219 Cleland Street, Georgetown, SC 29440, on Saturday July 12, 2025, at 11:00 am.
