Sherri Crawford Obituary
Sherri Davenport Crawford went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 2, 2025. She passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, after a short, brave, and courageous fight. In true Sherri fashion, she remained strong and gracious until the very end.
She was born on May 11, 1965, in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, to Billy and Marilyn Davenport. She had a wonderful childhood and was the apple of her daddy's eye. She was the younger sister of brother Scott and shared many happy childhood memories. Sherri graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from East Tennessee State University. While at school, Sherri joined the Phi Mu Sorority and formed lifelong friendships with a core group of sisters. After graduation, she started her professional career as a Regional Manager for the Eagle's Eye Sweater Company, overseeing a seven-state territory including Hawaii. Longing to be closer to home, Sherri joined Tanger Outlets in retail mall management, with assignments in Tennessee, Greensboro, Atlanta, and finally Myrtle Beach in 2002. Not long after moving to the beach, Sherri's talent for marketing was recognized, and she became involved in the golf industry. She served as the Director of Marketing for the Classic Golf Group and as the Golf Director for Classic. In April 2018, Sherri was hired by Chesapeake Homes as a Marketing Coordinator when the company entered the market to build new homes. She was an invaluable member of the marketing team, wearing many hats and handling a wide range of duties for the growing office.
Sherri met her husband, David, just three months after moving to the beach. They shared many wonderful years traveling, going to concerts and events, and dining at some of the finest restaurants and local foodie spots.
When she wasn't enjoying everything the coast had to offer, Sherri loved cheering for the Tennessee Volunteers, playing tennis, crafting, and cooking. She and David often hit the road in their RV, indulging in one of her passions-traveling. On any weekend, you might find them at a football game, a NASCAR race, or simply relaxing at a campground.
Sherri served on the boards or as a committee member of the Myrtle Beach Chamber, North Myrtle Beach Chamber, Georgetown Chamber, and Little River Chamber. She also served on the board of Caring in Our Lifetime, which is dedicated to raising funds and providing financial assistance for medical expenses to individuals in Horry and Georgetown counties affected by breast cancer. She was a regular volunteer at the annual Crab and Shrimp festivals as well. Recently, she was honored by the McLeod Health Foundation Board of Trustees as a McLeod Seacoast Fellow in 2019. Other notable achievements include graduating from the Leadership Grand Strand program, a prestigious honor recognizing her as part of a distinguished group of informed, committed, and qualified individuals capable of providing dynamic leadership for the Grand Strand area. Sherri was very community-minded and took time out of her busy schedule to participate as much as possible in local activities and events. Sherri was a friendly and outgoing person, and the entire Grand Strand was fortunate to have had her as an ambassador.
Sherri was preceded in death by her father and her beloved pups Peyton and Bugsy. Leaves to cherish her memory are her husband David Crawford, her sweet Shih Tzu Cami, her mother Marilyn, her brother Scott (Mendy), her nephew Austin (Brooke), and Sherri's great-niece Evelyn Rose, whom she loved and adored. Sherri leaves behind a wide circle of friends, family, and coworkers-she was greatly loved by many and will be deeply missed.
