Sharon L. Young passed away peacefully on September 14, 2025. She was 80.
Sharon was born November 2, 1944, in Newburgh, NY to the late Rial P and Shirley R Wood. She graduated from Newburgh Free Academy (NFA) where she met her late husband, W Wayne Young. They married in 1964.
Sharon is survived by her two daughters, Suzanne (Rich) and Jodie (Gerald), Jodie's two children, and her pet cockatiel.
Sharon worked as an administrator and office manager. Her administrative career started at Stewart Airforce Base and retired from Orange County (NY) Health with other companies in between.
She lived in the NY Hudson Valley area most of her life. Starting in Newburgh, moving to Montgomery, Wallkill, Cornwall, a few years in Bridgeport on Oneida Lake, and back to New Windsor. Her daughter, Suzanne, moved her to Myrtle Beach, SC in 2018 to enable caring for her.
She was sharp with a quick wit and enjoyed making others laugh. Her wit and laughter were enjoyed by her daughter and caregivers through the end.
Her favorite flowers were Stargazer Lilies, and she loved animals, especially dogs.
Sharon also wrote poetry. Suzanne discovered a book of her poems and would like to share one.
LOSS, LOVE & LIFE
I am here you are there
I often wonder why
But then I know the winds of fate blow hard
And are not often very kind
Now, I contemplate, the passing of the time
And question again, why?
We often seal our fates unknowing
Cannot grasp the past and present time
We must live today with what blows our way
And be aware of the sands of time
There is a time to laugh a time to mourn
There is love of many different kinds
Do we not know how to love and then let go?
Do we live to suffer what only each heart knows?
Yes we live a time of suffering and in truth know
It is ourselves that keep us so
Yes we know there are many things we'll never know
Yes times goes on and questions always grow
But lives are ours to live and not to pine away
So take today and keep your memories
But always make new ones, and soar on
The skys the limit so set your wings to go
