Rosiland Stahl Obituary

Rosiland "Roz" Stahl-a woman who could assist in open-heart surgery, land a plane, and sink a thirty-foot putt-passed away peacefully on February 6, 2026. While she has finally found respite from the devastating challenges of FTD and has gone to our Lord, her family and friends will forever remember the wise-cracking beauty who never backed away from a challenge.

Born August 13, 1952, in Charlotte, North Carolina, to Vivian Rowland and Joe Martin, Roz earned her nursing degree from the University of North Carolina and immediately conquered the complex career of open-heart surgical care. She became the head nurse for cardiovascular surgery at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center and was essential to that program, impacting the lives of many.

Every surgeon needed Roz. She was a tireless worker who could first-assist, pass instruments, and charm the room all at the same time. She was particularly essential to the career of her husband, Russell, providing a great resource of encouragement and support. Quite simply, wherever she was employed, Roz was considered the best.

Outside of the hospital, Roz's athleticism and grace found a home on the golf course. An 11-time club champion, she was the legendary "fourth" everyone wanted in their outing-not just for her low handicap, but for her sharp wit. She loved her golf partners, especially Sally McFarlane and Diane Bortnyk. When she wasn't on the fairway, Roz maintained an immaculate and comfortable home. She also shared a special bond with her beloved chihuahua, Ruby, for whom she famously built a small house complete with a heating pad and a collection of coats.

Roz is survived by her husband, Russell; her siblings Frank Clouse, Cynthia Phillips (Roy), and Greg Clouse; and her children Katherine Brooke Tucker (Rodney), Michael Remkus (Rebecca), and Jonathan Remkus (Morgan). She was also the deeply loved stepmother to Harrison and Hannah Stahl. Roz will be missed by her sister-in-law Leslie Clauson (Ed) and brother-in-law, Peter Stahl (Linda).

Roz especially loved her "sister-at-heart," Julia McBride, who was a devoted caregiver, courageously showing up for Roz at all times of need the last year of her life. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to her caregivers, including "Team Roz", recruited from her church and the Myrtle Pointe community, as well as the staff at Reflections Assisted Living at Carolina Forest for their compassionate care and support.

A celebration of life for Roz will be held at First Methodist Church, 901 North Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach, on Friday, March 20th at 11:00 a.m. with time for fellowship and refreshments following the ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Purple Crusaders Working To End Alzheimer's, PO Box 493, Cheraw, SC, 29520.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of our dear friend Rosiland. She was not only a wonderful neighbor during our years in Clark Summit, Pennsylvania, but also a truly cherished friend. Rosiland brought kindness, warmth, and joy to everyone around her.

She was a fantastic golf partner and, without a doubt, one of the best players we ever had the pleasure of playing with. More than her talent, we will always remember her sportsmanship, her laughter, and the special moments we shared on and off the course.

Rosiland will remain forever in our hearts. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with her family and loved ones during this difficult time.
