Robert Sullivan Obituary
Robert "Bob" P. Sullivan, 85, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Friday September 12, 2025 while at Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. He was born on March 24, 1940 in Newark, New Jersey to the late Phillip & Elizabeth Polacek Sullivan.
Along with his parents, Bob is reunited in passing with his wife of 54 years and the mother of his three children, Ms. Joyce Mennicucci Sullivan.
Bob was a hardworking man with a heart of gold and a zest for life. He proudly served our country in the United States Army as a Specialist from 1958 until his honorable separation in 1960. In his younger years and by trade, Bob was a tool and die maker. He worked at Bell Labs where he contributed to the theoretical design of the first laser. Bob retired in February, 2025, after working 20 years in the maintenance department at Litchfield Country Club Golf Course. Always one to stay active in his community, Bob was a proud member of Belin Methodist Church, VFW Post 10420, American Legion Post 178, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 2351, Murrells Inlet Elks Lodge 2797, 32nd Degree Free & Accepted Masons and the Irvington Tech High School Alumni. In his free time, Bob appreciated the quiet moments. He could be found golfing, collecting Lionel trains & model planes, traveling, gardening, watching classic movies, playing board games, and was the lead vocalist of a doo-wop group called "The Dots" who performed regularly in Seaside Heights, NJ in the 50's. Above all else, Bob loved his family with his whole heart. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered as the amazing husband, fiancé, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend he truly was.
Left to cherish Bob's memory are his beloved fiancé, Helene Sorrentino, with whom they shared a deep and loving bond. He is also survived by three sons, Robert P. Sullivan (Maria), Lake Elsinore, CA; Sean P. Sullivan (Colleen), Stroudsburg, PA; Scott M. Sullivan (Veronica), Quinton, VA. Grandchildren Taylor, Garrett, Annika, Jack, Aiden, Connal, & Peyton; a sister, Maureen Brune, Bricktown, NJ; nephew, James (Tina) Brune, Bricktown, NJ; grand nieces and nephews, and his treasured pet, Lefty.
A Celebration of Bob's life will be held privately.
