I grew up a block over from Bob on Hoffman St, what used to be 20 Hoffman but is now 23 I think. I had known Bob so long I can't even remember how we met as kids, probably since kindergarten, first grade, I don't even know, probably since the first time I was allowed outside, there was Bob, ready to get into something. We were the same age; he was my best childhood friend. I lost contact with everybody when our family moved away back in high school. But Bobby would always come around the house and talk me into playing some baseball, or football or wander around the town to see what mischief we could get into. He was a leader then. He was a little heavier back then, but he make no mistake, he was pretty active and athletic for his size and just liked playing sports. But we'd walk down to Hogan's or Grand Union at the end of the neighborhood, and he'd buy sum gum or candy and always share it with me, bubblicious gum he'd share with me and then we'd have bubble blowing contests. Sometimes I'd go around with him on his paper route for The Citizen, I think I helped fold papers too. But we'd go down to the dam, Owasco lake, walk down to Hoop's park, climb around on that big rock reenacting a seen from Star Wars or something. In fact, we used to reenact the bog scene from Star Wars with all our action figures and ships under our swing set making a big muddy mess with the hose but that ended once my Dad got home and pitched a fit about all the water we used. And then there was the makeshift club house we made in our basement to hang around and read comics which I'll admit I wasn't too much into the comics. There weren't too many dull moments with Bob. Once we were cutting through some back yards on our way downtown and found and old chemistry set. Well, we happened to be passing by an above ground full size pool and of course had to test this thing out, so we poured some of the chemicals into the pool and waited, nothing, hmm. So we continue on our way and a few minutes later this woman came chasing us down the street screaming at us about what we put in her pool because it was brown now! Who us, uh yeah, we don't anything about that. If you still live in Auburn ma'am, on behalf of Bob and I, we apologize profusely. I broke my ankle one summer so was kind of limited to the backyard. The new Han Solo guns came out, with sound effects and everything and I talked my Mom into letting me get one and Bobby said he'd go down and get it for me. "All right but you better not take my money Bobby"; " I promise I won't". And a little while later he came back with the gun which we took turns using. Bobby also had a knack for uhm, kind of getting on other guys' nerves in the neighborhood I'll just say that could usually result in some type of conflict. There was Mike Doyle, Mike Grillo, probably Joey too, The brothers that lived over on Bradford St. I think, the blond-haired kid from the other neighborhood, well he would come over and start trouble with us, but I ran down to get David's help with that one. And sometimes us but that was before we could do any real damage to each other and he'd come back by the house later and convince me to be friends again. I was always amazed and he never backed down. I think my Dad took a liking to him for that, they were similar that way I guess, but my Dad would bring him fishing with us once in a while. I could share other stories, all the backyard football and baseball games, but hopefully you all get a sense of what Bobby was like growing up. He was a big part of my memories growing up in that neighborhood. It sounds like he passed on the same way he lived, with passion and with courage. He was an intelligent and caring person. It is my prayer he has found his final rest with the Lord. My family extends our deepest sympathies and condolences to his family, he will be missed, he was definitely one of a kind. Thank you for the opportunity to share.

Sending love to you all and strength during your time of grief. Bobby was unique for sure. He was smart and had a sense of humor like no other. Sometimes his one line remarks would leave me blinking and laughing. May he rest in peace . Tell Aunt Peggy hello.
