Richard Malloy Obituary

Obituary for Richard G. "Rick" Malloy
July 21, 1952 - November 2, 2025
Richard G. Malloy, known to all simply as Rick (and to many as "Slick"), passed away peacefully at home on November 2, 2025, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, following a period of declining health due to leukemia and heart failure.
Rick proudly served his country as a tank driver in the U.S. Army before spending more than 37 years with the U.S. Postal Service in Kearny, New Jersey. His primary career goal was clear from the start: retire as early as humanly possible. Mission accomplished. He hung up his uniform at 55, moved to Myrtle Beach, and never looked back.
A lifelong sports fan, Rick bled Giants blue, both NFL and MLB, and was endlessly proud of his son, who pitched for the San Francisco Giants. He spent many years coaching his sons' baseball teams, bringing the same mix of competitiveness and creativity he showed in everything else.
Rick was also a proud former member of the Elks, where he was honored as Elk of the Year multiple times. He valued the friendships he made there and the sense of camaraderie that came with belonging to the lodge.
Those who knew Rick best would say he had a big presence and an even bigger personality. He didn't sugarcoat much, but behind that tough exterior was a genuine kindness and a soft spot for the people he loved.
Ever the strategist, Rick treated life like a game of angles. He was a credit-card company's worst nightmare, not because he missed payments, but because he mastered every sign-
up bonus, reward points, and loopholes like a pro. Long before that, he was enterprising in all sorts of ways, selling gadgets, finding off-the-truck bargains, and making sure everyone around him got a little piece of the action.
Despite his love of a good deal, Rick was remarkably generous with the people he cared about. He was devoted to his family and kept lifelong friendships stretching from his Myrtle Beach circle of Carol, Brent, and Peggy to his New Jersey crew, Eddie, Joe (Jumbo), Diane, Pearl, Lisa, and others who shared decades of laughter and loyalty. He found joy in making people laugh, often at his own expense, and loved nothing more than seeing the people around him happy.
Rick is survived by his sons Rich (Beth), Bill (Stephanie), and Dan (Kelly); seven grandchildren, Gwen, Megan, Maya, Max, Luke, Lauren, and Halley; and his nephews Richard Rivera, TJ Rivera, and Matthew Rivera, who will fondly remember his humor, kindness, and gift for getting a good deal. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Mildred Malloy, and his siblings, Linda and Michael.
The family will honor Rick privately. In keeping with his philosophy of efficiency, he requested a simple cremation, no fuss, no frills, and certainly no annual fees.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests doing something Rick would appreciate: find a small win, get a good deal, or close a credit card the moment the bonus hits.
Mr. Malloy is entrusted to Kelvin F. Lewis, the funeral director, and the Lewis Crematory & Funeral Home staff of Myrtle Beach, SC. (843) 294-0011.
