Richard "Rich" Brodie August 10, 1946 – August 9, 2025 Richard "Rich" Brodie, 78, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025, one day before his 79th birthday. Born on August 10, 1946, in Lonaconing, Maryland, Rich was the son of the late Hildred and Ernest Brodie. He graduated from Valley High School in 1964 and went on to build a long and dedicated career. In the early 1970s, Rich worked for Kelly Springfield in Freeport, Illinois, before beginning his career with the Illinois Central Railroad in Freeport in 1973. He retired in 2006 from the Canadian National Railroad after more than three decades of service. Following his retirement, Rich relocated to Myrtle Beach, where he embraced the coastal lifestyle. Rich enjoyed golfing, riding his Harley, meeting friends for a few beers, and cruising around on his golf cart. He was known for his easygoing nature, his strong work ethic, and his love for time spent with family and friends. Rich married Ann Marie Brodie in 1978, and together they had one daughter, Jennifer (Josh) Butson. In 2009, Rich married his beloved wife, Linda, with whom he shared many wonderful years. He was a proud Pop Pop to Noah and Hillary Brodie both of Platteville, and Jaimie Morgan of Geneseo, Il. He is also survived by his sister, Shirley Fresh; nephew, Bryan (Shelly) Cosner; Linda's daughters, Lisa McVicker, Christine VanWyhe, and Leanne Baker, all of Des Moines, Iowa; the Brunton and Butson families of Platteville, Wisconsin; and many dear friends. Rich was preceded in death by his parents, Hildred and Ernest Brodie; his first wife, Ann Marie Brodie; and his brother-in-law, William Fresh. Rich will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and the joy he brought to those around him. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
