Paul Moloney Obituary
Paul Francis Moloney, 67, passed away unexpectedly on Monday October 27, 2025, at his home in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. He was born on December 7, 1958, in the Bronx, New York to the late Paul Moloney & Alice Ita "Ethel" Boland Moloney.
Along with his parents, Paul is reunited in passing with his brother, Patrick Moloney & sister, Mary Moloney.
Paul was a hardworking man who spent years climbing the ranks and proudly retired as a Narcotics Detective for the New York City Police Department. During his time with the department, Paul worked in the 33rd & 34th Precincts that oversaw Washington Heights. On that fateful day in 2001, Paul took on the task of being one of our 9/11 First Responders. After assisting the city through a devastating and daunting experience, Paul recognized the need for peer support for his brothers in the field. Paul proudly co-founded POPPA, a confidential, independent, non-departmental, peer-based assistance program for the NYPD- designed to respond to the psychological and mental health needs of NYPD officers. Always quick to offer a helping hand, Paul was also an active member of AA for over 38 years, where he made life-long friends and deep, lasting connections with others.
In his younger years and before his life of dedication, Paul enjoyed playing hockey! He went semi-pro and had the honor of playing for the Manitoba Moose. During his time of service, Paul was a member of the NYC Emerald Society and the Coastal Shields. He held numerous North American Irish Step Dancing Competitions and titles- claiming to be the "fastest feet in the Bronx!" Above all else, Paul loved his family with his whole heart. He was exceptionally proud of his children's academic achievements. Especially later in life, Paul relished time spent making memories with his family and army of friends. He will be deeply missed.
Left to cherish Paul's memory are his adoring wife, Mrs. Emmeline "Kate" Murphy Moloney of Murrells Inlet; their children, sons, Paul Moloney of Albany, NY, Timothy Moloney of Murrells Inlet, SC, daughters, Emma Moloney of Yonkers, NY, Saoirse Moloney of Manhattan, NY & Tara Moloney of Yonkers, NY; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins; a large, loving, extended family and many supportive friends and neighbors.
A Celebration of Paul's life will be held privately.
