Patricia Townsend Obituary

Patricia Lilian Townsend, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025, at the age of 95. Born on December 1, 1929, in London, England, Patricia's life was a tapestry woven with resilience, creativity, bravery, and love. Surviving the harrowing experiences of the WWII London Blitz, Patricia emerged with a spirit that would carry her through life's many adventures. She began her professional journey as a couture seamstress at the prestigious Harrods Department Store, where her talent and dedication shone brightly. On a beautiful April day in 1953, she married Peter Townsend, and together they embarked on a journey of love and exploration, traveling extensively across Europe, creating memories that would last a lifetime. In 1967, they made the bold decision to move to the United States with their four beloved children, settling in Cranford, New Jersey. There, they built a wonderful life filled with dear friends and community. In 1979, Patricia and Peter took on a new venture by purchasing a marina in Forked River, New Jersey, where Patricia managed operations for an impressive 30 years. Her warmth and British charm made the marina a welcoming place for both locals and visitors alike. After retiring, Patricia moved to Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, where she enjoyed the serene beach life for the last 13 years. She cherished her time spent at the beach and enjoyed outings with her best friend, Shirley. An extraordinarily talented artist, Patricia, found joy in painting and crocheting, sharing her creations with family and friends. Her endearing English accent and sweet, loving personality captivated everyone she met. Known affectionately as "the queen", she was the heart of her family, whose love she cherished deeply. Patricia's bond with her rescue cat, Timmy Townsend IV, was a testament to her nurturing spirit, and she found joy in their companionship. She is survived by her four children Elaine, Geoffrey (Norma), Paul (Daisy), and Jane. Her grandchildren Nicholas, David, Nicole, Geoffrey, Brittany, Paul, Ryan, John, Lauren, Peter, Kayla and William. Her great grandchildren Tessa, Nicholas, Scarlett, Nicholas, Wesley, Elizabeth, Catherine, Lillian, Brayden, and Zoey. Patricia was predeceased by her husband Peter Townsend, son-in-law David, grandson Michael and countless friends who will remember her fondly. A memorial service to celebrate Patricia's remarkable life will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2025, from 2-4 PM at Burroughs Funeral Home in Murrells Inlet, SC. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to All For Paws in Pawleys Island, SC, or any local animal shelter in her name, honoring her love for animals. Patricia Lilian Townsend will be dearly missed, but her legacy of love, creativity, and resilience will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
