Michael Durnavich Obituary

Conway… Mr. Michael Lawrence Durnavich, age 78, passed away on Monday, August 4, 2025. Born April 6, 1947 in Des Moines, IA, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Helen Durnavich. He was a retired Master Gunnery Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corp, having retired after 31 years of service. He served in Vietnam, Desert Storm, Operation Desert Shield, and was active during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Durnavich was an avid sports enthusiast and billiards competitor. He positively influenced the lives of many young people through his development of a local softball league. In addition to the league, he was also instrumental in building the playing fields in the community. He also enjoyed gardening and spent a lot of time outside working in his yard. Surviving are his wife, Young Sook Durnavich; three children, Samuel Michael Durnavich, Janna Christine Durnavich, and Michelle Durnavich Powell (Daniel); four grandchildren, Breck Samuel Durnavich, Kai Thomas Durnavich, Bryce Daniel Powell, and Jackson Reed Powell; and two sisters, Terry Durnavich and Kelly Depetro. A service with Military Honors at Quantico National Cemetery will be scheduled at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Durnavich's memory to Grand Strand Humane Society, 3231 Mr. Joe White Avenue, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577 or to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
