Mary Gecha Obituary

Mary Louise Gecha, 86, passed away peacefully Tuesday September 16, 2025, at her home in Myrtle Beach surrounded by her loving family. Formerly of Center Rutland, VT, Mary was born in Proctor, VT the daughter of the late Rober J. Hier and Sophie V. (Ostrowski) Hier. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband Richard Gecha in 2007. Mary was a graduate of Pittsford-Barstow High School in Pittsford, VT where she met and married her high school sweetheart Richard Gecha. She worked primarily in the banking business and bookkeeping field in the Rutland, VT area before retiring in 2002 to Myrtle Beach, SC. Mary is most fondly remembered as loving spending time with her family, who she so proudly spoke of. She enjoyed camping with her family in the early years as well as taking trips with her husband in the later years of their time together. Mary loved painting pictures, sewing, crafting and working in her garden. She enjoyed making quilts and quilting things for her family and friends as well as for Shriners Burn Victims. Mary also enjoyed knitting and crocheting for friends, including donating baby hats to the local hospital and Help 4 Kids. Mary found great pleasure in working part time and cooking for friends and family. She was a past member of the Knights of Columbus Columbiettes and was a volunteer at the Shepherd of the Sea Food Pantry and Socastee Library. She was fortunate to have wonderful friends and neighbors. Left to cherish Mary's memory are her sons Mike Gecha (Dolores) of Florence VT, Brian Gecha (Kimberly) of Brandon VT; Grandchildren Sarah Gecha (Eric Ronn) of West Rutland VT, Kevin Gecha (Casey) and their daughter Ryle Gecha, Mary's great Grandchild of North Clarendon VT. Mary will truly be missed by her family, friends and neighbors.
