Linda Worthington Obituary
Myrtle Beach… Linda Faye Bailey Worthington passed away at home surrounded by family on September 2 at the age of 76. Linda was born in Covington County, Alabama, on January 21, 1949, to Mixon and Lucille Bailey of Opp, Alabama.Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Mixon and Lucille Bailey, her brother Clarence Bailey, her sisters Carolyn Schofield, Peggy Saunders, and Brenda Moss. She graduated from Kinston High School (Alabama), received a bachelor's degree (Education) from Auburn University (Alabama) in 1972, and a master's degree (Education) from East Carolina University (North Carolina) in 1992. She taught 5th, 6th, 7th , and 8th grade during 39 ½ years of teaching. In 1997, she was awarded "Teacher of the Year" from E.B. Frink Middle School in La Grange, North Carolina. She aided high school dropouts in preparing for a high school equivalency test (G.E.D) for over 6 years in Alabama and North Carolina. She retired from teaching in January 2011. Linda was an incredible wife, a fully invested mother, a dedicated Grammy to grand and great grandchildren, a Bible believing Christian, a devoted friend, and a seasoned teacher. She loved and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and being active in a Southern Baptist church in every town she lived in. Her love has woven through the generations of family, students, churches, and friends. Her wisdom, resilience, and boundless love have shaped everyone she has touched. She had a smile that would light up the room. Her family is eternally grateful for her enduring presence and the legacy she has created. She is survived by her husband Tony Worthington, son Jay Worthington (Frances), daughter Amy Whitley (Chris), nine grandchildren: Anli Keen (Larry), Virginia Worthington, Emma and Parker Whitley, Khristopher, Anna Skye, Joseph, Rosie, and Ruthie Worthington, and one great-granddaughter, Zora Grace Keen. She was the sister of Clarence Bailey, Carolyn Scofield, Peggy Saunders, Nix Bailey, Harry Bailey, and Brenda Moss. ; . A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 6, at North Conway Baptist Church in Conway, South Carolina. The family will receive family and friends at 2 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall, with a service to follow at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Avenue, 16th Floor, New York, New York 10001.
