Karen Landis Obituary
Karen Anderson Landis, age 61, of Great Mills, Maryland, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. A devoted wife, mother, sister, and veteran, Karen lived a life marked by service, adventure, and deep love for her family and country. Born on March 5, 1964, in Kingston, Pennsylvania, Karen was the daughter of Mary Claire Anderson and the late John J. Anderson. She proudly served her country as an Aviation Machinist's Mate (AD1) in the United States Navy, retiring honorably in 2003 after 20 years of service. Her favorite assignment took her to Baskingridge, New Jersey and she especially cherished her time stationed in Rota, Spain. After retiring, Karen continued to serve others through her work as a federal government employee with the Department of Labor. She held a Bachelor's degree and was highly respected for her integrity, intellect, and dedication. Karen married the love of her life, Kevin Stuart Landis, on September 22, 2023, in Leonardtown, Maryland. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, support, and countless cherished memories. She was a proud stepmother to two children, Kelley Palaspas of Escanaba Michigan and Bradley Landis of Cheboygan, Michigan. In her later years, Karen found joy in simple pleasures-she enjoyed baking, exploring National Parks, and spending time in nature. Her travels took her across the globe, from Alaska to Japan and China, reflecting her adventurous spirit and love of discovery. She also had a deep love for animals and a warm, welcoming presence that endeared her to many. Karen was a member of St. George's Catholic Church in Valley Lee and moved to the Great Mills area five years ago from Silver Spring, Maryland. She is survived by her beloved husband Kevin, her mother Mary Claire Anderson of Murrells Inlet, SC, her sisters Regina "Jeannie" Tino (Joseph) of Leland, NC and Diana Mayers of Morris Plains, NJ, and her nieces Jessica Steigerwalt and Kristin Chiaparas. She also leaves behind her grandniece, Mya Chiaparas, and many friends and extended family who will deeply miss her kindness, resilience, and unwavering support. Karen was preceded in death by her father, John J. Anderson. Her legacy of love, service, and strength will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her. She will be laid to rest with honors in recognition of her service to our nation. A Memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 13, 2025 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel with lunch to follow. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at 10:00 AM.
