Joseph McConnell Obituary

Joseph Jerald McConnell II passed away at the age of 88 in Murrells Inlet South Carolina on Monday, September 15, 2025 with his loving wife and daughter by his side. Joe is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Sonia Haggart; brother, Carl McConnell; step sons, Brian Donovan, Kevin Donovan and step daughter, Maureen Donovan. Joe is survived by his loving wife, Agnes; son, Joseph McConnell III wife Christine; daughter, Jennifer McConnell, MD.; wife, Lori; stepson, Michael Donavan, wife Stacey; grandchildren, Joseph (Maddison) McConnell IV, Morgan (Jennifer) McConnell, Julie McConnell, Sarah McConnell and niece, Mallory Haggart. Joseph grew up in Elmira, New York and then attended Alfred University completing his Masters of Science in Education in 1967. He taught high school WOC studies, and for a short time was a school administrator in later years. However, most of his working career was focused on being a mason, using his hands to build and create. During his retirement he developed a passion for antiques and for decades owned his own business, Ebenezer Antiques in upstate New York and then later in Cape Cod. In 1999 he married Agnes who was a loving and willing partner in the next "adventure" building a camp in the Adirondacks, going antiquing and traveling across the country visiting places as far as Alaska. They finally settled in Murrells Inlet SC. Until the very end they still had dreams of the next adventure together. Joe was known for his love of animals, especially his dogs. His sense of humor was a great gift! He had no limit to what he could do or teach himself. He had many hobbies with a passion for creativity, many are blessed to have some of his works including stained glass masterpieces and paintings. He was a builder with a passion for creativity. With confidence, his message would be to not limit yourself and follow that next adventure. He had great faith in God and Psalm 23 was one his favorites. May the adventure he finds at the Eastern Gate in heaven be all he believed and hoped for! A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, October 11, 2025 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Frances Animal Rescue, Parkinson's Research or to the Huntington Disease Research.
