John Keutmann Obituary
John Albert Keutmann, 90, passed away peacefully on Monday August 25, 2025 in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. He was born on November 19, 1934 in New York, New York to the late John Magnus Keutmann & Dorothy Bogart Keutmann.
Along with his parents, John is reunited in passing with brother Thomas.
John was a Class of 1956 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. He proudly served our country in the United States Army for 23 years. He had two, year long, combat tours in Vietnam and he was Commander of the 4th of the 20th Mechanized Infantry Battalion in the Panama Canal Zone. He rose to the rank of Colonel before retiring from active duty in 1979. In retirement, John was an active supporter of national and local organizations dedicated to the interests of special needs children and adults. He enjoyed playing golf and watching college basketball, especially fellow West Point graduate, Coach K and his Duke Blue Devils.
Left to cherish John's memory are his wife, Florence Keutmann of Murrells Inlet, SC; two sons, John (Kathleen) Keutmann of Cody, WY, Kevin (Susan) Keutmann of Lakeland TN and four daughters, Debra (Bernard) Link, of Mill Valley CA, Denise Borkowski, of Chicago IL, Sharon (Mark) Cumberpatch, of Murrells Inlet, SC & Allison Keutmann of Murrells Inlet, SC; beloved grandchildren, John, Patrick, Michael, Natasha, Logan & Tristan; great grands, Jack, Thomas, Ryder, Silas & Clarifey; two sisters Irene (Kenneth) Widman of NJ & Dianne Croce of OR; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins; a large, loving, extended family and many supportive friends and neighbors. John or "Coach" as he was known to his grandchildren will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for John on Thursday September 4, 2025 at 1:30PM at St. Michael Catholic Church, 542 Cypress Ave. Garden City, SC 29576. Inurnment with military honors will be held immediately following the mass, within the church columbarium.
