Janet Sinclair Obituary

Janet Thomson Wright Sinclair was born on October 18, 1930, in Detroit, Michigan, and passed peacefully on September 10, 2025, at the Embrace Hospice House in Myrtle Beach,South Carolina, with family members by her bedside. Though she came into the world an American, her story was deeply connected to her Scottish roots. She was the daughter of Adam "Scotty" Wright of Saltcoats, Scotland and Barbara Dickie Wright, who grew up in the nearby village of West Kilbride, Scotland. From them, Janet inherited an unwavering determination, steadfast resilience, and an uncommon grace - qualities that would shape her life in remarkable ways. She was happily married to G. Edward Sinclair for 72 years. He preceded her in death on August 21, 2025, and her own quick passing afterward reflects her desire to be united in eternal life with her Heavenly Father and reunited with her loving husband, Ed. Janet was a devoted and nurturing mother, whose love and guidance shaped the lives of her three children: Marleen Joy Hanner (Robert) of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Edward Jay Sinclair (Barbara) of Newmarket, New Hampshire; and T. Jon Sinclair (Chrystal) of Frankford Township, New Jersey. She took immense joy in being "Humma" to her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a grandmother whose warmth, wisdom, and tireless support shaped the lives of her grandchildren. She delighted in their joys, guided them through challenges, and created memories filled with laughter, stories, and love that will be cherished for generations to come. A woman of extraordinary talents, Janet was ordained as a minister while still in her teens and served for over 60 years as a dedicated Major in The Salvation Army. An inspiring preacher and evangelist, Janet shared the love of Christ with passion, purpose and conviction, always seeking to honor her Lord and Savior in all she did. Janet's six decades plus of active service in The Salvation Army, combined with more than thirty years of volunteer ministry, stand as a profound testimony of a life wholly devoted to service. It is no exaggeration to say that Janet touched the lives of well over 100,000 people through her journey. Her love and kindness knew no boundaries-serving people from every walk of like, regardless of social status, ethnicity or circumstance. Her greatest ministry was among those who bore the heaviest burdens of life: the poor, the widow, the hungry, the addicted, the incarcerated, the downtrodden, the homeless, and any other marginalized community where lives were overshadowed by despair. With compassion and faith, she touched hearts, bodies, and spirits alike, bringing dignity, comfort, and hope. Janet is survived by her brother, John "Jack" Wright, as well as extended family and cherished friends. Her brothers Alexander, William, and Thomas Robert predeceased her. Janet Thomson Wright Sinclair's life was a testament to the beauty of a heart fully devoted - to her family, to her faith, and to the world around her. She moved through life with creativity, courage, and a relentless desire to serve, leaving behind a legacy that cannot be measured in words alone. Her life reminds us that true greatness is found not in fame or fortune, but in the lives, we touch, the love we give freely, and the faith we live boldly. Janet's story will linger in the hearts of all who knew her, a shining example of resilience, devotion, and a soul fully on fire for God - a life that whispers to us all: love deeply, serve faithfully, and let your light shine without fear or hesitation. Until we meet again in God's heavenly realm, we honor you with love that knows no end and devotion that time cannot dim. Your spirit will forever guide us and your memory of light that will never fade. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Janet T. Sinclair's name.
