James Greenaway Obituary
In Loving Memory of James Edward Greenaway
September 12, 1940 – November 14, 2025
James Edward Greenaway, of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina-formerly of Pembroke Pines, Florida-was born on September 12, 1940, in Willoughby, Ohio, to the late Horace Greenaway, Sr. and Agnes Greenaway. He left this world peacefully on November 14, 2025, with his daughter and son-in-law by his side.
Jim is survived by his loving daughter, Shila Marlow, and son-in-law, Billy Marlow, Jr., of Murrells Inlet, SC; his wife, Levenia Greenaway, also of Murrells Inlet; his brother, Horace Greenaway, Jr., and sister-in-law, Donna Greenaway of Madison, OH; and his sister-in-law, Denise Greenaway of Willoughby, OH. He also leaves behind many cherished cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends, including special friends who became family: Dawn Mathis; Pat and Chris Bassett and their children, David and Abby; and Hipolito, Ileana, and May Baldriche. He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Greenaway.
Jim had a kind and gentle soul, crystal blue eyes, and a smile that lit up every room he entered. A proud American, he honorably served in the United States Air Force and remained a dedicated member of American Legion Post #20 for more than 50 years.
After his military service, Jim and his wife, Levenia, moved from Ohio to Florida to enjoy the sunshine and warm weather he loved so much. A true Florida boy at heart, he was happiest outdoors and went fishing every chance he had.
An aircraft mechanic by trade, Jim was also a natural-born "fixer" of anything and everything. Whether it was a 300-ton crane or a pocket watch, he took great pride in repairing anything brought to him. His exceptional skill was matched only by his generous spirit-friends knew he could truly fix anything. He took great pride in that.
Even in his final days, his bright blue eyes and infectious smile continued to warm the hearts of everyone around him. He was the person people turned to when life became difficult-the calm in the storm, the steady hand in a chaotic world, the voice of reason when clarity was hard to find, and the comfort needed when clarity felt out of reach. A straight shooter without anger or judgment, he had a rare gift for offering honesty without judgment and advice that was always grounded and true.
He will be deeply and forever missed.
A Celebration of James' life will be held privately.
