James Carroll Obituary
James Linwood Carroll
August 6, 1936 - May 23, 2025
James Linwood Carroll, 88, of Galivants Ferry, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on May
23, 2025, at Grand Strand Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. A devoted husband, father,
grandfather, Dundy, great-grandfather, deacon, and friend, Linwood leaves behind a legacy of
faith, service, and unwavering love for his family.
Born on August 6, 1936, in Horry County, Linwood was the son of the late Thurmond Carroll and
Eva Leta Carroll. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Lester Carroll and Lloyd Carroll, and
his beloved first daughter, Mary Lou. Though he endured profound losses, his steadfast faith
and quiet strength carried him through life. Linwood was filled with a determination to help
others learn from his mistakes. He was the pillar and foundation of his family and his loss will be
felt for many generations.
Linwood went into business with his father in law and together they created Midway Park.
Linwood also proudly served his community for 30 years with the United States Postal Service
before retiring and often joked he'd been retired longer than he worked. Even in retirement, he
remained dedicated to helping others. In his younger days he loved volunteering with the Myrtle
Beach Police Department in the 1980s. His commitment to service extended to his church,
where he faithfully served as a deacon, offering wisdom, kindness, and spiritual guidance to his
congregation.
Above all, Linwood cherished his family. He was married for 68 years to his devoted wife, Ethel.
Together, they crafted a beautiful legacy, raising a son and two daughters, spoiling nine
grandchildren, and rejoicing in seventeen great-grandchildren. His home was always filled with
laughter, love, and the warmth of his steadfast presence. He also shared a special bond with his
loyal companion, his precious dog Heidi, who brought him great comfort and joy.
A man of deep faith and stubborn spirit, Linwood's life was a testament to love, family, and
service. His family and friends will forever remember his wisdom, his hardheadedness, and the
quiet strength that guided them through life's challenges.
Preacher Ernest Duncan will conduct the funeral service to be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 2:00pm with a visitation one hour prior at Goldfinch Funeral Home in Conway. Interment will follow at a later date at Hillcrest Cemetery in Conway.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to SOS Care 5276 Highway 17, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576 in Linwood's memory.
