Gladys Klein Obituary

Gladys F. Klein, 90, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Sunday July 27, 2025 at her home in Pawleys Island, South Carolina. Born on September 20, 1934 in Queens, New York to the late Howard C. Pearson & Gladys Scofield Pearson, she is reunited with her beloved husband, John J. Klein; and her brother, Howard Pearson. Gladys was a tenacious, hardworking woman of great faith, with a drive to help others succeed. She attended St John's University in Queens and studied accounting. Her affinity for math and attention to detail led her up the administrative ranks of several companies over the years until her well-deserved retirement as the Administrative Assistant for the Medical Director at the VA Medical Center in New Jersey. After retirement, and always one to be active, Gladys found her home at Brookgreen Gardens, where she worked and volunteered her time for over 20 years. She was a devout Catholic and active member of Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church in Pawleys Island, attending daily Mass, and loved her years of service at Father Pat's kitchen. She especially enjoyed traveling on Fr Paul's pilgrimages to Holy sites across the globe. While known for being always "on the go," Gladys also enjoyed quiet time, reading and quilting. Gladys was a force to be reckoned with and her sheer will and deep faith brought her through many physically painful challenges. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for her tenacious drive, giving spirit, listening ear, and the love she had for her family, church and community. Left to cherish Gladys' memory are her daughter, Mary Elizabeth Klein and husband, Peter "Chip" Lee, of Pawleys Island, SC and grandson Jacob Connor Ricci; son, Gregory Klein and wife, Elisabeth of Rehoboth Beach DE, grandson Matthew Klein and wife Emma, and great grandson Oliver, granddaughter Mary Frances Klein and husband Geoffrey Cook; son, Dr. Andrew John Klein of Atlanta, GA and granddaughters, Keira and Emily; compassionate and devoted care-giver Connie Massey, as well as a loving, extended family and many supportive friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday August 9, 2025 at 11:30 at Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church, 1633 Waverly Rd, Pawleys Island, SC 29585. Visitation begins at 10:30. Inurnment will immediately follow the mass, within the church columbarium, and the family invites all guests to enjoy a celebration and eulogy of her life at the Repast at Fr. Pat's Kitchen, after the Inurnment. At the request of the family, please consider memorial contributions in lieu of flowers. Donations in Gladys' name may be made to Father Pat's Lunch Kitchen, or to the American Alzheimer's Association.
