Gertrude Parks Obituary

Gertrude Martha Parks (Manning), 80, of Surfside Beach, SC, passed away on Tuesday, March, 18, 2025, in Murrells Inlet, SC.
Gertrude is survived by her eldest son John Thomas Parks of Saraland, AL; 2nd son, Michael James Parks of Myrtle Beach, SC; eldest sister, Ruth Thompson of Hopkinton, RI; younger sister, Emily Hall of Warren, RI; grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Moore, of Newberry, FL, Benjamin Parks of Archer, FL, Duncan Manning Parks of Surfside Beach, SC, and Tanner Joseph Parks of Myrtle Beach, SC.
In addition to her parents, Gertrude is preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, James Ervin Parks.
Gertrude was born in Providence, RI to Alfred Benjamin Manning and Edna Frances Phillips on December 24, 1944. She went to school at Riverside, RI, graduating from East Providence High School. Gertrude married James Ervin Parks on December 2nd, 1965, in Gaffney, SC. She graduated from Johnson & Wales University in Providence and worked as a cook for various schools and restaurants throughout her career. Gertrude served in the US Army and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. She truly enjoyed her hobbies of cooking and sewing.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, March 21, 2025 at Burroughs Funeral Home, 3558 Old Kings Hwy, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to, Agape Hospice, 3938 US-17 Business, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576.
Burroughs Funeral Home and Cremation Services (843-651-1440) of Murrells Inlet is assisting the family with arrangements.
