Gerald Coleman Obituary

Gerald "Jerry" Coleman, Jr., 77, of Little River, South Carolina, passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at his residence. He was born May 23, 1948, in Dillon County, SC, son of the late, Gerald Coleman, Sr. and Mary Ruth Griggs Coleman. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Linda Coleman Jenkins. Survivors include his loving wife, Kitty Grainger Coleman of Little River, SC; a stepson, Carson Casoli of Columbia, SC; and a nephew and a niece; many extended family members; and many close friends/former students and players who were like family. Jerry was a graduate of Latta High School and then began his career at the SC Highway Department. He later decided through his love of sports and helping others that he wanted to become a teacher/coach. After attending Frances Marion University, he taught at Marion High School for over twenty-seven years; as well as twenty years at Pee Dee Academy. This included four state championships in basketball and tennis. He coached many talented players in golf, tennis and basketball. Jerry accumulated over 700 wins during his basketball coaching career. When he wasn't coaching, he was an avid golfer and enjoyed cheering on the USC Gamecocks, along with spending time with his friends and family. A graveside service in Jerry's honor will be held 11:00am Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Catfish Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, 1495 Catfish Church Rd, Latta, SC 29565.
