Frank Clark Obituary
Frank Adams Clark, Jr., 75, of Myrtle Beach, SC peacefully passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2025.
Frank was born in Whiteville, NC on May 29, 1950, to Frank Adams Clark, Sr. and Mary Mashburn Clark. He grew up in Chadbourn, NC until he moved to Myrtle Beach in 1960.
He was a proud graduate of Myrtle Beach High School's Class of 1968. While at MBHS, he was an honor student who served as Student Body President. Frank was an all-conference basketball player and played on the baseball, JV football, and tennis teams. In 1972, he graduated from Davidson College with a degree in Psychology. While at Davidson, he played basketball under coach Terry Holland and was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
After graduation, Frank backpacked for three months across Europe. He then returned to Myrtle Beach and served as the second director of Helping Hand (a crisis intervention ministry) eventually moving to Raleigh, N.C. to work in the restaurant business. While living there, Frank met Harriet and the rest is history. They married in 1981 and soon after moved back to Myrtle Beach. Later, Frank earned a Graduate Degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to support his teaching career.
Frank dedicated his career to being a coach and teacher for Horry County Schools at Socastee High School, the Academy for the Arts, Science and Technology, and Adult Ed. In the summers, he enjoyed working at the Myrtle Beach Pavilion returning to the place he worked as a teenager. He also enjoyed being a chaperone for the Western Tour for Boys & Girls for many years.
Frank was a member of the Gideons, a member and former President of Myrtle Beach Sertoma Club, on the board of A Father's Place, and a member of the Chicora Rotary Club. He was a long-time member of First Methodist Church Myrtle Beach, where he taught Sunday School and served as an usher. Frank was proud to be a Clark and always looked forward to reunions and gatherings with his Clark cousins. He was also an avid golf player, belonging for many years to Pine Lakes Country Club.
During his life, Frank received many awards and honors including the Mary C. Canty Community Service Award, Teacher of the Year at the Academy for the Arts, Science and Technology, and a scholarship supporting Mental Illness Recovery, Inc (MIRCI) was established in his honor by his sister, Mary Winter Clark Teaster. He was soon to be inducted into the Myrtle Beach High School 2025 Athletic Hall of Fame.
Frank will be remembered for his devoted service to others and his love of the beach, Tarheel basketball, and golf, but even more so for his commitment to Faith, Family and Friends in a humble way we can only hope to emulate.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife of 44 years, Harriet Dishman Clark, two daughters: Elizabeth Smith (Adam) and Caroline Zito (PJ), five adoring grandchildren (Evelyn, Maddie, Emery, Grant, and Clark) along with his sister, Mary Winter Clark Teaster, and brother, Paul Mashburn Clark.
